The Browns ran nine plays on their first three offensive drives while the Chiefs ran up 13 points to grab an early lead that seemed pretty secure against a Browns team starting Jason Campbell at quarterback for the first time this season.
Then Josh Gordon happened. Twice. Gordon turned a pass from Campbell into a 39-yard touchdown and then broke free for a 47-yard gain to set up a Billy Cundiff field goal that left the Chiefs ahead 20-10 at halftime.
Gordon has 86 of Cleveland’s 130 total yards of offense, which makes it plain how little else has gone right for the Browns offense on Sunday. The Chiefs offense has had more success, picking up 109 yards on the ground and 172 yards through the air and never punting through the first two quarters. It would have been nice if they could have turned at least one of Ryan Succop’s three field goal attempts -- he’s 2-of-3 -- into a touchdown, but they’ve done enough to move to 8-0 unless Gordon completely takes over the game in the second half.
Unlikely? Perhaps, but Gordon’s the best hope the Browns have and you’d expect to see them try to make the most of it in the final 30 minutes.
