Report: Snyder, Goodell to meet Tuesday regarding Redskins name

Goodell

On Wednesday, NFL executives will be meeting with representatives of the Oneida Indian Nation regarding the Redskins name. The day before, team owner Daniel Snyder will meet with Commissioner Roger Goodell regarding the issue.

According to Chick Hernandez of CSNWashington.com, Snyder will meet with Goodell on Tuesday in New York.

It’s unknown at this point whether Goodell or Snyder will participate in Wednesday’s meeting. We reported on Monday that two NFL executive Vice Presidents and other senior execs will attend the meeting with the Oneida Indian Nation.

Reach by email on Monday night, league spokesman Brian McCarthy had no comment regarding the specifics of the Wednesday meeting, or regarding the report that Goodell and Snyder will meet on Tuesday.

The group previously has invited Snyder to meet with Native Americans to explain his ongoing defense of the Redskins name.

It’s also unknown whether other owners will attend the meeting between Goodell and Snyder. We’ve previously heard that if/when the league decides to push Snyder to change the name, it’ll happen by Goodell and a handful of influential owners attempting to prevail upon Snyder to relent.
