The good news for 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is that he apparently has exited rehab, five weeks after entering a treatment program following a DUI arrest.
The bad news is that he surrendered to authorities on Tuesday night regarding felony weapons charges arising from the ill-fated June 2012 part at Smith’s house, which has now resulted in the unwanted trifecta of being stabbed, sued, and prosecuted.
According to NBC Bay Area, Smith turned himself in on Tuesday in connection with the latest legal entanglement for one of the best young defensive players in the NFL. He quickly was released on $75,000 bond.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court on November 12 in connection with the weapons charges, and then on November 19 in connection with the DUI charges. (The report also mentions pending drug charges; it’s our understanding that Smith ultimately was not charged with marijuana possession.)
Smith previously had agreed to turn himself in after exiting rehab. He remains on indefinite leave from the 49ers, who do not play this weekend.
