As receiving targets dwindle because of injuries, the Colts are willing to be a little more forgiving.
The team announced they had re-signed tight end Weslye Saunders, who has now fulfilled his eight-game suspension for a second violation of the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.
His next strike would trigger a one-year ban.
The Colts lost tight end Dwayne Allen to injured reserve early, and just placed wide receiver Reggie Wayne there with him,
Saunders originally signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie in 2011, but they waived him after the first suspension. The Colts brought him in then. He’s started 10 games, and caught six passes for 44 yards and a touchdown.
The talent’s there, but Saunders hasn’t always been able to channel it. The Colts are willing to give him a last chance.
