The Panthers added a quarterback, lightening the load in practice for the two guys who have taken every snap since final cuts.
The Panthers signed former Bears quarterback Matt Blanchard to their practice squad, giving them a third behind Cam Newton and Derek Anderson. According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Panthers also worked out former Ravens camper Dayne Crist.
Blanchard had a solid preseason, but was waived with an injury settlement after breaking a knuckle on his non-throwing hand.
The Panthers were stretching their first two passers thin, since third-stringer Jimmy Clausen was put on injured reserve with a preseason shoulder injury. He may have been cut anyway, and now the Panthers have another filling his old role of practice arm.
