Earlier this week, we mentioned that Aaron Maybin had signed on with the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts.

On Friday night, Maybin saw his first CFL action, recording a pair of tackles in Toronto’s 23-20 loss to visiting Montreal in the regular-season finale for both playoff-bound clubs. The Argonauts and Alouettes had each secured their playoff positions, so the end result didn’t affect the CFL’s postseason picture.

“Obviously you never want to start off with a loss in your debut game,” Maybin said afterward, according to The Canadian Press. “But one thing I can say is I’m happy to be back on a football field, man.”

The 25-year-old Maybin was with the Bengals this summer but was released in August. The No. 11 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Maybin notched a combined 36 tackles, six sacks and five forced fumbles in regular-season play in stints with the Bills and Jets.

The Argonauts don’t play for another 16 days, giving the club more time to evaluate Maybin and giving Maybin more time to adjust to the CFL game. Toronto will host the East Division final on Nov. 17.
