The report that Lovie Smith interviewed for the USC head coaching job is being denied by Lovie Smith.

Smith told Jay Glazer of FOX Sports that he was taken aback by the report that he interviewed for the USC job. Smith told Glazer that he absolutely did not interview with USC and has zero interest in the job.

That directly contradicts a report from Jason La Canfora of CBS, who reported that Smith interviewed for the position.

The USC job is considered one of the top positions in college football, and USC is believed to want a big-name coach to take over next year. The school fired Lane Kiffin after the Trojans got off to a 3-2 start, and Ed Orgeron is currently the Trojans’ interim head coach.

Other NFL names including Tony Dungy and Jack Del Rio were previously linked to the USC job, but USC said after those reports surfaced that no one authorized by USC had reached out to either coach.
