The Jets hold a 23-17 lead over the Saints in the third quarter thanks to the efforts of their defense and a collection of scrap heap finds on offense pressed into service by injury.
It may take an extension of their 15 minutes to keep the offense upright in the coming weeks as well. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets fear the injury suffered by wide receiver Jeremy Kerley in the first half of Sunday’s game is an elbow subluxation.
It’s no surprise given how nasty the injury looked when Kerley suffered it as his arm bent in an unnatural direction when it was rolled into at the tail end of a running play. The Jets have a bye next week, but that would likely mean an extended absence for Kerley, who has already been ruled out for the rest of this week.
Greg Salas, who is playing his first significant minutes since joining the Jets with Kerley out, had a 44-yard catch-and-run to set up Nick Folk’s third field goal of the day and a 23-14 lead early in the third quarter. The Jets kept things that way by harassing Drew Brees on nearly every dropback until a Garrett Hartley 55-yard field goal made it 23-17 with 1:55 to play in the quarter.
