Each week, Washington finds new ways to screw up on special teams.

This week, it’s Kai Forbath attempting two field goals in the first half against San Diego and having both of them blocked.

The first blocked kick was totally unacceptable: It was a 25-yard chip shot that San Diego’s Lawrence Guy blocked by coming straight up the gut and getting right in the path of the ball, with Washington’s line barely blocking him.

The second was a little more understandable, seeing as it was a 59-yard attempt on the last play of the first half. Still, Washington would have liked to get a better block on San Diego defensive lineman Corey Liuget, who got his hand on the ball.

Washington coach Mike Shanahan has repeatedly spoken up for special teams coach Keith Burns, but the mistakes repeatedly happen. At some point, someone needs to be held accountable.
