Packers place Jermichael Finley on injured reserve

It has seemed unlikely for some time that Packers tight end Jermichael Finley would play again this season and the Packers made the end of his season official on Tuesday afternoon.

The Packers have placed Finley on injured reserve, which means he’ll be rehabbing the spinal cord contusion he suffered a couple of weeks ago in hopes of making it back on the field for the 2014 season. Whether or not that’s with the Packers will remain to be seen as Finley is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Greeen Bay also announced that they have activated tackle Derek Sherrod from the physically unable to perform list. The 2011 first-round pick hasn’t played in a game in nearly two years because of broken leg and complications from surgery to repair that broken leg. Given the layoff, it’s probably not realistic for him to provide anything more than depth right now, but the door could open for more if Sherrod shows he’s capable of handling the position.

The Packers also placed linebacker Sam Barrington on injured reserve, ending his season. Barrington injured his hamstring in Monday night’s loss to the Bears.

  1. Packers or not, I hope he gets to play the game that he loves again. Get better soon Jermike.

  2. Maybe Josh didn’t watch the game and he assumed that Rogers played and not Seneca. Maybe he assumed McCown wouldn’t be that good. Maybe he’ll double-check and correct the article from “Barrington injured his hamstring in Monday night’s victory over the Bears.” to “Barrington injured his hamstring in Monday night’s tragic, unexpectedly heartbreaking loss to the Bears.” Maybe the Moon is made of cheese.

  3. Good luck with your recovery JF!

In a related note, I have to send out my profound gratitude to NFL fans from all corners of the US (and even outside this great country) for the tremendous outpouring of love and support during these trying times. It restores my faith in humanity, and you folks have reminded me of how much good there is in this world. The Packers have friends in every NFL fanbase (except one), and our mutual respect for each other is what makes the NFL so great. It’s what makes our country so great. God bless America.

Perhaps these poor and angry Viking fans will be inspired to pull themselves out of their hate fueled bouts of self loathing because of the fine example you people set.

We Packer fans are blessed. Thank you.
