The Buccaneers waited a long time for Jeff Demps to finish with his track commitments and turn his attention back to the football field.

Once Demps arrived, they didn’t get much time to see what he could do before his season came to a close. The Buccaneers placed Demps on injured reserve Wednesday, a few weeks after Demps had groin surgery.

Demps played just two games with the Bucs, serving as a running back and kick returner. He ran once for 14 yards, caught three passes for 21 yards and returned four kicks for 93 yards in his brief time with the team. Demps has world class speed, but he hasn’t been on the football field enough with either the Buccaneers or the Patriots to know if that’s enough to make him a viable threat.

The Buccaneers filled Demps’ roster spot by claiming safety Bradley McDougald off of waivers from the Chiefs. McDougald played one game for the Chiefs and was waived on Tuesday when the team activated defensive back Sanders Commings from his temporary stay on injured reserve.
