Coaches around the league were asked their reactions to the troublesome case of the Dolphins yesterday, and most of them tried to tiptoe politely around it, or talk about how such problems didn’t happen under their watch.
And while Packers coach Mike McCarthy didn’t want to delve too deeply into the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito harassment talk, he did offer his unequivocal support for Dolphins coach Joe Philbin.
“I really don’t have an opinion on what’s going on in Miami,” McCarthy said, via Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “But I trust Joe Philbin with my children. That’s the highest compliment I can give another man.”
Philbin was McCarthy’s offensive coordinator prior to taking over the Dolphins in 2012, so there’s a natural loyalty.
But there’s also a reason so many coaches are steering clear of the topic.
