Incognito: Martin joked, “I will murder your whole f—king family”

Suspended Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito says that the infamous voicemail in which he used the N-word and threatened to kill teammate Jonathan Martin was just the way the two of them joked around with each other. And Incognito says Martin used to say the same types of things to him.

Incognito told Jay Glazer of FOX Sports that a week before Martin left the Dolphins, it was Martin texting Incognito with profanity and a physical threat — which Incognito said he thought was just the normal way they went back and forth.

“A week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me, ‘I will murder your whole F—ing family. Now did I think Jonathan Martin was going to murder my family? Not one bit,” Incognito said.

Incognito allowed that he may have taken some things too far with Martin, but he said he never intended to hurt Martin.

Before the interview aired on FOX, Glazer disclosed that he and Incognito have been friendly for five years and that Glazer has worked with Incognito on mixed martial arts training. Glazer added that Incognito was forthright about all but one thing: Incognito wouldn’t answer when Glazer asked whether the Dolphins’ coaches ordered him to toughen Martin up.

  1. richie incognito is a liar.

Show us the text or let us listen to the call, richie.

richie incognito is gonna get his.

  2. IMHO this case is not about Incognito. This is the Dolphins organization versus Martin. The media is focusing on Incognito because it is easy considering his past but any issues that occur within the workplace the Fins are vicariously liable for.

  3. That alleged text is on record or is it? If Martin texted that “murder your family” text. Incognito should produce it o r not use it.

It’s irresponsible for Glazier to not follow up on that accusation and not ask for proof.

  4. Glazer added that Incognito was forthright about all but one thing: Incognito wouldn’t answer when Glazer asked whether the Dolphins’ coaches ordered him to toughen Martin up.

    _______________

    So that’s a yes…

  5. No evidence from the interview that a guy who’s been kicked off every college and pro team he’s been on has learned anything.

  6. It continues, let’s give all this attention to “bullying” of an NFL tough guy by an NFL tough guy and no fines or suspensions were given out for Ravens safety James Ihedigbo on film using a 2 hand choke hold on Browns wide receiver Greg Little, yet they claim to be about player safety, which is less safe choking or name calling? Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me…….

  7. Now, those are words real friends use between themselves.

At least they are in occupations where mayhem, broken bones, playing to hurt the “other guy” and physical punishments to the max are the norm.

When “Pro” wrestlers do their hype for their audience, isn’t their words even crazier than these?

All of this comes down to the question of: “What is Martin’s endgame?” Its clear he wants out of Miami and it really doesn’t work that Incognito is the reason.

  8. He could have talked about the “ordering” issue but his lawyers probably advised him not to use that card, as the act of not using the card is a play in itself to try and get whatever resolution they seek. But he was letting the public know that card does exist as a Joker floating somewhere in the deck. Do you really want to call his bluff and say he isn’t holding it in his hand? That’s all he wanted to get across with that particular line.

  9. For Incognito’s sake, I hope that’s true. Easy enough to prove since the cell phone companies keep texts for a specified period of time. If it is indeed true, then Martin’s motives and psyche should come under official scrutiny. That would be at least twice where Martin had a severe problem with something exactly like what he has done. Lunchroom prank that supposedly caused the meltdown and sending vile and stupid messages. If Martin’s defense is something along the lines of he was just trying to fit in and be accepted by the rest of the goons he was forced to work with–well, for me that just invalidates every claim he has made. If Incognito’s claims are true the Martin’s conduct has been much more detrimental to the team than Incognito’s.

  10. Whats funny is that probably 80% of the people who post here have never been in a locker room. I have no doubt these two were friends and they both got a little too familiar with one another. Martin is a coward and Incognito is taking the fall for the whole organization. I am not saying Incognito is innocent in all this, because he is not. He is however the scapegoat. It also says alot about him about not answering the one question. What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. Thats a rule in all professional sports locker rooms. Incognitos street cred just went up a few notches. Its no wonder the whole locker room is defending Incognito.

  11. No surprise that Glazer would do an embarrassingly one sided interview with Incognito. Fox should be ashamed with themselves for airing that junk.

  12. If Richie Incognito, the Dolphins, his teammates and the NFL, – if any of them – have moderately competent lawyers, those lawyers are fuming. Besides granting the interview no lawyer would ever sign off on, he was filmed contradicting himself, telling easily proven lies and blaming the victim. Congrats Richie, if Martin files suit, you just not only just lost the case but added a couple of million to the settlement

Actually, that’s not even close to Glazier’s responsibility. That is evidence that Incognito should produce when summoned to.

How come Incognito needs all this proof, and it hurts Glazier’s reputation, but every other media outlet in the country ran with hearsay reports, and they just keep saying “yeah, ok, maybe we weren’t 100% accurate, but there’s SOMETHING here. Just wait……)

    Ridiculous

  14. This is becoming a “he said, she said”, and I’m starting to figure out who the “she” is

  15. Jay Glazer is a joke, he thinks he’s one of the guys because he trains them at his MMA combine – whatever the hell that is – and his vernacular is terrible

  16. BREAKING NEWS

    New text messages just released.

Martin to Incognito “We are never, ever, ever, ever getting back together”

Incognito to Martin “Yeah, like ever”

  17. Armando Salguero ‏@ArmandoSalguero 53m
Incognito gave FOX his cellphone. Network printed 1,142 texts between Jon Martin and Incognito, including texts after Martin left team.

    curious to see those texts…

  18. Is this the idea of trash talking or joking these days between people ? “I will slap your mother..I will kill your whole family “…..ridiculous.

  19. svn2011 –

My 96 year old grandpa makes jokes about other people’s moms all the time. It honestly blows my mind that people aren’t used to this dialogue. It’s just another example of living in a dream bubble where everything is kudos and roses

  20. Prior to this, Glazer hasn’t been forthright about his relationship with Incognito. Glazer certainly hasn’t been shy about making accusations about Martin and his friendship with Incognito explains it.

I would have preferred Incognito sitting down with an actual news reporter.

We’ve got every reason to believe Incognito was given the list of questions in advance and was allowed to prepare answers and rehearse.

  21. LOL@ the people saying “Lawsuit for millons”. What is Martin going to sue for?
“Your honor my client is suing for millions because his teammates were mean to him.”

Incognito is brilliant for going on the offensive. It makes him look more and more credible.

Whats even funnier is that the people who are crying foul are the same people who created his mess by taking away corporal punishment. Kids today suffer no repercussions for their actions and then they wonder why this stuff still happens. Its comical.

Martins lawyers better get the Chewbacca defense ready.

  22. These animals are just too much.

I gave up on the idea that the NFL was anything more than a TV show a while ago, but maybe we can all just accept it now.

  23. I love how all the people who have made up their minds jumped to question whether or not Incognito could or would verify his text claims when those same people have been accepting any and all unsourced accusations from Martin’s lawyers, agents, and other members of his camp for a full week now… whereas it took waiting a mere 20 minutes or so for Glazer to definitely verify that he has all of Incognito’s texts with Martin that were stored on the phone and that Incognito’s statements are verified.

Which of you has seen a complete transcript of the voicemail? Or heard it? Oh, none of you!

  24. I sound like a broken record but this whole case is simply Richie Incognito mis judging his relationship with John Martin. The media and many fans badly want it to be big, bad, mean, racist jerk Richie Incognito picking on poor Jonathan Martin which will be evdient by how many thumbs down this post receives. It’s laughable that folks question Martin’s text messages to Incognito when Glazer clearly stated he had a log of over 1142 texts between the 2 from Richie. It just cracks me up how badly people want this story to go a certain way.

    ______________

Glazer is extremely well respected by players, fellow journalists, and media critics alike. He rarely ever reports something that turns out to not be true, and when he breaks news, you can bet that it’s correct with evidence to back it up.

  26. LOL: everyone is kicking and screaming because the failed to realize that Martin is using the “I was bullied” defense to get out of having to pay back his signing bonus.

  27. This goes way beyond Martin and Incognito’s pissing contest. It has to do with the way the dolphins brass handles there business, this organization is a joke. I live in SOFLA and every sports media employee is doing everything to defend Incognito, especially Armando Salguero who like the rest of the Miami Media total Homers the fins can do now wrong no matter what. it’s sickening down here

  28. Here’s the skinny. The investigator needs access to all those text messages and voicemails (I don’t believe cell phone companies save text messages). It becomes a he said, he said situation.

Martin is the never-got-in-trouble, bright Stanford graduate who blocked Luck’s blindside and started all 23 games on the Dolphins.

Incognito is a guy who has been kicked off two college teams and has been on three separate teams, is considered to be a dirty player has been considered in league circles to be the NFL’s Dirtiest Player, if not one of them, over his career. He had a sexual harassment incident with a charity volunteer last year. He’s been in fights with bouncers. He’s supposedly threatened to fine his fellow Dolphin players if they don’t comply to have regular meetings at strip clubs. He’s accosted his teammates for very high bills.

I remember one interview he gave with Dan Lebetard on practically forcing the then rookie QB, Ryan Tannehill, to buy jetskis for the whole offensive line because they’re blocking for him. Um, hello??? You and your OL are being PAID A LOT of money by the Dolphins to block the QB. You act like you’re blocking the QB for free. Get over yourselves.

In short: This Incognito has a history of being a bad guy. Martin’s only incident is leaving the Dolphins. When you have a guy with a bad reputation, said guy is NOT going to get the benefit of the doubt. That’s just the way it goes.

  29. Incognito is a bad guy with a deserving reputation.

BUT I feel like this is the part of the movie/TV show where the lawyer tells his client (Martin) that he needs to tell him everything and leave nothing out. How the lawyer doesn’t want to be blindsided. Sure, of course, agrees Martin.

Immediately as this aired the lawyer was calling Martin. “What do you mean you forgot that you sent him a message saying you were going to kill his family. That’s just the way you talked? And you texted him saying he wasn’t to blame for you leaving? Do you have any idea what you have done to my chunk of the settlement…I mean, your case?!”

“On to the Dolphins” they agreed.

  30. My utmost thanks to the new generation of “professional” football players! My most heartfelt gratitude for the burgeoning sleaze factor in your sport!

Because now I gratefully find my Sundays free to do other, much more productive activities than sit on my ass for 3 1/2 hours in order to witness 11 minutes of “football action”! Action tainted by persistently growing steroid and drug use, bar fights, drunk driving, weapons charges, wife beating, sexual harassment, gang rape, fraud, criminal interference, bullying, and enough incapacitating head injuries that were it any other activity it would surely be banned by congress (as if they could get their act together!?!?)!!!

Football commissioner Roger Goodell constantly yaps about having “no tolerance”-yet the list continues to grow…. (I should have you salary!)

Sadly, college football isn’t far behind….

  31. I see no fingers pointing at the real source of the problem. Pro football fans. Once a very loyal fan, it became painfully obvious to me that this sport causes horrible brain damage to many players and I could no longer be a part of this. Did any of you see Tony D’s recent interview? Why did Junior Seau and Dave Duerson shoot themselves in the heart? Who does that?! The great Walter Payton killed himself with pain-killers. Believe me, there’s much tragedy ahead. Did it occur to anyone that the behavior of both Incognito and Martin could be a result of brain damage? I expect to be the target of insults and ridicule for this post. That’s OK with me. I know that brain damage is not limited to NFL players.

If you really “could no longer be a part of this” then you would not be on a blog site solely dedicated to professional football (and the occasional story about the NCAA and Florio’s kid). The ridicule you will get will probably be based on your hypocrisy or your holier than thou attitude.

Brain damage? Really? Stop looking for excuses. Incognito is a crass, immature meathead and Martin is an overly sensitive manipulator. Many followers of the story have no idea what they are even mad about and many will cite something completely erroneous to justify their ire. The media has found a story that they can profit from so it is in our faces 24/7. That’s it. No need to look for a mysterious syndrome or an innocuous parenting mistake from 1996.
