As expected, the 49ers released wide receiver Kyle Williams on Tuesday afternoon.
That wasn’t the end of their roster shuffling, however. The team also announced that linebacker Nick Moody has been activated from injured reserve and that cornerback Perrish Cox will be joining Williams in the unemployment line.
“Decisions like these are always difficult, especially at this time of year,” General Manager Trent Baalke said in a statement from the team. “Kyle and Perrish have represented the 49ers organization very well, both on and off the field. We appreciate their dedication and contributions and wish them all the best.”
Moody, a sixth-round pick last April, broke his hand in the opening week of the season. Cox played sparingly for the 49ers in recent weeks and Eric Wright’s return likely eliminated any need to keep him on the roster.
