Dwayne Bowe arrested on speeding, possession of marijuana charges

Bye weeks are often welcomed by teams because they provide a chance for players to heal up the aching body parts they’ve accumulated over the course of the season.

There’s also a little bit of fear about the possibility of players running into trouble without their jobs to occupy them. That’s what appears to have happened to Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.

Riverside, Missouri police confirmed to FOX 4 in Kansas City that Bowe was arrested shortly before midnight on Sunday on charges of speeding and possession of a controlled substance. Bowe was pulled over for going 48 mph in a 35 mph zone and the police officer that pulled him over smelled marijuana in the car, leading to a search with a police dog that found two containers with 6.6 and 3.8 grams of marijuana in a bag. One of the two passengers in the car was also arrested for possession of marijuana.

Bowe was released on a $750 bond and has a December court date on the charges.

  1. Oooh, he was going 13mph over the speed limit & had some marijuana in the car. What a danger to society! I’m glad the police officer is keeping us all safe from this menace! [sarcasm]

  2. Way to go Bowe! Nothing like getting that big contract and being a distraction to your 9-0 team. You’ve basically been non existent all year and now this. Way to go dude! Stay classy!

  3. Based on how many times they HAVEN’T been throwing to Bowe. I get the feeling that Dorsey & Reid would like to get away from the Bowe contract.

  4. 48 in a 35 at midnight? While Bowe is a DA for doing this, that’s a bit of a ticky-tack reason to be pulled over. Going 13 over on a highway or interstate is one thing, in town, that late when traffic basically is nonexistent, get real.

  5. Well that will help if he ain’t playing this week. They are going to have a hard enough time scoring points as it is.

  6. Another rocket scientist.

I have an illegal substance in my car so I am going to break some traffic laws because I am not too smart and stuff…

    PS on Rocket Science:

    Force= Mass X Acceleration.

It’s less confusing than the stupidity of some people…

  7. Reset the “Days without an Arrest” calendar. This has to be the most dysfunctional industry ever; when it comes to good corporate citizenship.

  8. Jeez, you can’t wait until the off-season? Don’t these guys get randomly tested?
Oh right, that’s why there are Whizzinators.

  9. Another quality arrest by clown cops….and BTW, im a cop. I don’t smoke that garbage myself but I like to have the occasional drink….and seriously, what the heck is the difference between the two?? If the guy wasn’t high then tell him to move on and then try doing some actual police work.

  10. As a long time Chiefs fan I could testify in his defense. Sure Bowe sometimes seems high, but he’s never been fast.

  11. Who hasn’t driven 48 in a 35? And he’s getting in trouble for marijuana which is legal in some states and it appears to be gaining traction as being legal in all states.

  12. time to resrt the counter…lol…how dumb can he be?? never spwwd when you got illegal atuff in da car.

  13. Wow he’s practically Aaron Hernandez. Speeding? AND having a harmless herb that will be legal in every state 30 years from now? Lock em up and throw away the key.

  14. Marijauna being illegal = Ridiculous.

Knowing it’s illegal and speeding while having it in your car and knowing the ramifications = Ridiculously dumb.

    48 in a 35? Come’on MAN….

That being said – speeding with bags of weed?

    Not smart

    ——————————————–

“Bags of weed” makes it sound worse than it was. In total he had less than 1/2 ounce…a misdemeanor is a lot of states.

    Legalize it, already.

  16. And for the rookies out there….1 oz=28 grams…..so basically they nailed Bowe for LESS than a half an ounce of weed. Pathetic.

  17. Even if this moron was suspended, you wouldn’t be able to tell anyway.

It’s not like Alex Smith throws the ball over 5 yards anyway.

The house of cards is about to collapse.

  18. Riverside is notorious for having the most ignorant cops in the city. They will pull you over for doing 3 over…. You would think Riverside was a nice neighborhood with all the Roscoe P Coaltrain’s but its actually the city’s armpit. DBowe should have known better.

  19. marshawn lynch got arrested for DUI in july 2012 and still hasn’t missed a game.

bowe’s court date is december 8th, and he certainly won’t miss a game before then.

  20. I just don’t get it. It’s the same as these reality shows that show drug dealers with an entire car full of drugs speeding 20 + on the interstate. Perhaps you might want to set the cruise control at the speed limit, no? Why take the chance? Doesn’t one guy in the car maybe look over at the driver and say, “You know, the car is full of drugs, maybe we should just do the speed limit and blend in with everyone else.” Nope.

A civil offense in a lot of states, rather.

  22. As a Chiefs fan, this guy is a scum bag and is soft.

We will never forgive him after that 4th & 13 Vs the Chargers. When we were down by 7 with 90 seconds to go and he put his arms down to protect his ribs, rather than go for the ball.

    Beat Dwayne you’re garbage.

  23. As one who supports full legalization for recreational use by adults….DON’T BURN WHILE DRIVING, YOU MORON!

  24. Interesting thing is that I frequently see NFL players getting arrested for drug possession, yet they never seem to fail any drug tests. Is the NFL drug testing policy just a joke?

I mean, apparently Von Miller was paying off (or “influencing”) the tester. Although a while ago, LT said in his recent documentary that he would use other players’ urine (and that the other player’s urine was why he failed).

Maybe this explains why these guys are so huge.

He hasnt done anything because of Captn Check down you seem to forget, but needless to say the marijuana doesnt look good, but 13mph over the speed limit shoot Greg Little and Josh Gordan are laughing at that.

    ================

Well Bowe can’t throw the ball to himself. Alex Smith can’t hit a receiver who isn’t wide open. He just will NOT take chances.

    13-3 and one and done.

  27. Making millions while on a team with a perfect season going and he goes out and does this? This is the definition of “being selfish”.

And that’s coming from a Raider fan.

  28. Headline should read “Dwayne Bowe cited for speeding, arrested for posession of marijuana” Speeding does not result in arrest. 🙂

That being said, I see a lot of people making excuses for Bowe. Here is the deal. Speeding is not legal. Bowe would have been pulled over for going 44 in a 35 in many places, and some areas are even more strict allowing only 5 MPH over the limit before making a stop.

The reefer charge. Well, marijuana is illegal almost everywhere. I don’t care of Bowe smokes it, it is none of my business what he does. What is stupid is having a bag of grass in your pocket. Either keep it at home, store it in the trunk or stash it somewhere. Pot must make people stupid.. Stupid enough to get caught carrying it around.

Here is a helpful hint to anyone who likes to toke up. Only take with you an amount you plan to smoke. Don’t be carrying around a quarter ounce of weed if you only plan on smoking a joint. Never carry your weed on your person. There are plenty of places to keep it other than your pocket. Smoke your weed at home. Cops are currently not kicking in doors to find nickle bags of grass. You can smoke until you choke in the privacy of your own home. No one cares. A little common sense goes a long way if you don’t want to be arrested for having pot on you.

  29. I am so tired of this “stay classy” phrase everyone throws around anytime a player or team make a mistake. Yeah, because trolling around on a message board commenting on everyone’s mistakes in life is such a “classy” thing to do.

    _______________________________

Suprisingly enough, players are not randomly tested unless they fail the scheduled test. Every player is tested at least once a year. They know well in advance when the test is going to be done. Some of these idiots still manage to fail the test.

Bowe will be randomly tested now that he has been caught with weed. He was free and clear to toke up whenever he wanted so long as he abstained from smoking weed for a month prior to the scheduled test.

  31. lot of weed heads posting on this story. BTW..”ticky tack” traffic violations are the reason law enforcement pull guns and violent felons off the street routinely.

  32. Look at it this way. He was what, like 73% over the speed limit. If he was in a 50 mph zone that is about 87mph. Would that have been acceptable?

Why do these over coddled millionaires refuse to just follow the law?

PLUS who does not know, if you have weed in the car you do the speed limit. That is just common sense.

  33. For such a small amount of weed the only reason he got booked for it is because he made the officer search for it. If he had told the truth and handed it over I can almost guarantee the cop wouldn’t have busted him for it.

  34. His Grams per bag average is almost as high as Alex Smith’s yards per attempt average. Impressive.

  35. People making light of going 48 in a 35 must not live on 35mph neighborhood streets with children in most households. I’d be furious if someone were driving 48 on my road. Much worse than doing 18 over the speed limit on a highway.

  36. while going 13 MPH over is not uncommon like everyone is saying. doing it at midnight is a guaranteed pull over around here. they aren’t. concerned with your speeding just what they can find now that you’ve given them a reason to pull u over. having the weed in the car…..bonehead.

  37. One year from now article will read…..

Pulled over for doing 48 in a 35, all other substance found had zero toxins, helps the body recover, and is legal.

Or, you can believe bs that we have been fed for others personal gain for half a century…. That is 100% fabricated for evil intent.

  38. So, Let me get this right. A person driving 13 miles over the speed limit, possibly under the influence, carrying an illegal substance (In Missouri) is arrested and most of you find this an Abomination? Lets just say he ran over or crashed into someone driving on the street and there were injuries or a fatality. Lets say the person injured or killed was your loved one. Would it then be O.K. ? So, you have traveled over the speed limit before and didnt get caught, maybe even while you were DUI. Consider yourself lucky, not Law abiding!!!

  39. IT IS ILLEGAL….says the government who right at this moment is probably tracking everything we type on our computers, or say/text on our cells….gimme a break.

  40. The NFL should just accept that their players smoke weed like the NBA does. It’s hardly the end of the world, and I am hardly pro drug guy as I’ve never touched one in my life and never would. There are clearly bigger battles to be fought out there.

  41. This goes out to everyone that’s urging for marijuana to be made legal in all states.

Is your primary reason behind this
    a) so YOU can use it legally
    b) so players on your favorite team won’t end up in trouble and ruin your team’s season
    c) is because you basically just think it’s dumb for weed to still be illegal.

As unfair as any of us might think this law is to still be on the books, it’s still a law in most states. Knowing that you’re carrying the substance, not paying attention to the speed limit and driving at midnight all are reasons begging to get pulled over.

  42. What a idiot..You already riden dirty..& Speedin (Somewhat) least u can do I wait to smoke somewhere besides ya car..that’s a automatic reason to search..I swear for most of these dudes to grow up in “The Hood” they’re really stupid when it comes to knowin the do’s and don’ts

Because you obviously think of your children first I’m sure they are tucked in bed shortly before midnight, getting their eight hours in, safe from the savage Dwayne Bowe speeding up and down your road

  44. Let’s go ahead and coin this game “The Smoke a Bowl”. With Von Miller, Bowe, Houston, and a few others it would be fitting. If it only weren’t for “Saint Manning”, though I’m sure Miller could get his nerves calmed for that bum ankle.

And thanks Bowe, now I can’t troll on the donkey fans for Miller being a stoner.

    “Stay Classy”…

  45. Well, that’ll lead to 9-1 on Sunday night. Although I was expecting that anyway when the combined win percentage of the teams they’ve beaten is like .300.

    Peyton will drop 35+.

  46. Cars should come with a little trap door thing that could open up like around where your feet are, then when you’re getting pulled over for stuff like this, you can pop the trap door open, and sprinkle the weed out through it. By the time you have pulled over on the side of the road, there’s nothing on you anymore.

  47. Steve, your math is wrong bro. He was going 40% faster than the posted limit, not 70%. I get your point but I knew 70% couldn’t be right.

    “It’s Science”, and “Stay Classy”.

And to the guy getting bent over the “Stay Classy” comments, watch Anchorman. Then come back and apologize for being a Ron Burgundy definition of San Diego.

  48. He’s not an idiot for having weed or for speeding… He’s an idiot for having weed AND speeding!

Let’s say this, let’s say that…… suppose this suppose that…
How about, none of that did happen and the guy wasn’t even arrested for DUI. I’ve been pulled over and searched before cause the truck “smelled of marijuana” and i don’t even smoke. Just a cop making an assumption by the way i looked. In my case he couldnt have been more wrong. But who knows, might not have been true about the smell at all. Just a cop profilling multiple black guys with dreds out late at night and got lucky. If he was “high” he would have been charged with DUI as well.

  50. What a dummy! I’m a pothead but I would quit the second I signed my first NFL contract. Hell I’d even quit if my current job offered me a 6 figure salary. What’s the average career length for WR now? He couldn’t wait a decade? It’s called priorities and it’s clear football doesn’t come first to him.

  51. JBax—EVERYONE has gone 13 miles over the speed limit, it’s not a big deal. & to kill a guy because of his ADULT decision to have a plant & an herb that’s increasingly legal shows me YOU’RE not the one who’s classy. This whole thing is the *police* being a distraction to a citizen just trying to go home & not hurt anybody.

You’re missing the point — regardless of whether you think weed should be legal, it is in fact illegal in Missouri. It’s also a violation of the NFL’s rules and Bowe’s contract. So basically he’s violating 3 different sets of rules to which he agreed just so he can smoke some pot. It’s silly of him.

In other News coach Andy Reid was also caught speeding and found to be in possession of 13 slabs of ribs, 27 calzones and a 12 pack of diet coke.

    ——————————————-

UPDATE: Coach Andy Reid offered this response after being questioned as to why he was speeding: ‘I just have the munchies and I’m headed over to Dwayne’s (Dwayne Bowe) house’.

    Stay tuned.

  54. Tons of NFL players smoke weed. You know why? Because it helps them recover from soreness and minor injuries. If I were an NFL free agent, I would choose a team in a state where it’s legal. And I don’t even smoke, personally.

Props to hallirish…best post of the day hands down…

  56. @stealthjunk No, you’re missing the point. I get the point you’re making, I get it because I’m older than the age of 10 and have intelligence that is higher than that of a turnip. And yeah, on a practical level, what Bowe did was not very smart. However, don’t expect me to just accept this kind of stuff as anything other than a stupid waste of time just because “the law is the law”.
The reason the NFL and his contract forbid weed is because of the prevailing thought among society that weed is destructive and/or immoral, a thought that stems from the fact that it is illegal. If this was happening 100 years ago during Prohibition, the NFL and his contract would include language preventing his use of alcohol.

And I don’t even smoke weed or really drink much either, but guys like you and that cop who pulled him over are like those nerd students who remind the teacher that she didn’t collect everyone’s homework.

  57. What’s with all the Alex Smith haters…….”he’s a GREAT manager of the game”……..

  58. i had a feeling this guy was gonna be a dissapointment somehow after the chiefs re-signed him and gave him his money!!! another idiot player who cant wait for the offseason the smoke the sticky icky!! chiefs should make a statement and hold him accountable by not just letting the franchise down, but his teammates as well! suspend him with cause! this idiot is putting a great season by the chiefs at risk ! im not a chiefs fan either!

  59. “Let’s see, my team is having the year of years. I can dedicate myself to my mates and the organization, or I can get smoked up and busted in a clear demonstration of how I am centered on me, me, MEEEE…”

  60. The NFL should just let these guys toke up on the sideline. That is what I am reading with a lot of the posts.

Here is the thing. Any of you folks who have kids, I have a question. What would you do if the NFL allowed Marijuana and your kid got busted with some pot or you found pot on them? Say your kid is 12 or 13. Your kid says “Well, My favorite football player smokes pot”. Does that make it alright then?

These players are role models for kids. If the NFL allows it, players will be tweeting about how much weed they smoked. They would be posting pictures of their new bong. There would be videos on youtube of guys smoking weed. Better off to keep it on the banned list.

  61. bowe was pulled over cause no good everyday worker is cruising around in a high end car at 12am on a weeknight..

moving forward,, use cruise control while blazing the good good.

  62. This is a bunch of lies I tell you. We all know chit dont happen til after 2 AM for NFL players. It only happens to regular folks. I guess playing WR for the Chiefs can be considered a job anybody can do.

NO WAY you are a ‘sworn in’ Police Officer in a US jurisdiction.

Square badge perhaps? Or school something or other?

Real cops enforce laws that save lives. Stoned drivers and drunk drivers kill people.

The cop was doing his job: Protecting us from people who put us at risk.

I am a retired police officer. Not sure what you are…as no cop I know would say something that stupid.

  64. As a Chiefs fan I’m livid over this. The week of the first game with Denver and Bowe has to prove yet again, how stupid, childish and selfish he is.
