Report: Jets have interest in Ed Reed

Reed

Safety Ed Reed’s old team in Baltimore said Wednesday that they aren’t interested in a return engagement now that Reed is unemployed, but a guy who used to coach him is less resistant to the idea.

Jets coach Rex Ryan said “absolutely, yes” on Wednesday when asked if he’d like to have Reed on his team, although he also said there were plenty of other former members of his teams that he’d like to have on his roster as well.

“The big picture of right now, the current football team, I’m probably not the right guy to make all those decisions,” Ryan said, via Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com. “I think sometimes there’s a comfort level in knowing guys, without question, guys that certainly played well for you. ... I’d like those guys, without question.”

Ryan said he discussed Reed with General Manager John Idzik, who is the guy making all those decisions, and Cimini reports that the Jets have reached out to Reed. Dawan Landry, Antonio Allen and Jaiquawn Jarrett have been the safeties for the Jets this season and secondary play has been the biggest vulnerability on their defense this season.
