Mike Smith expects Gonzalez, Douglas at practice on Friday

The Falcons were down two key members of their passing game at practice on Thursday, but Friday should bring better news on that front.

That was the message from coach Mike Smith during an appearance on 790 The Zone on Friday morning. Smith said that tight end Tony Gonzalez will practice and wide receiver Harry Douglas should take part in the team’s final session before Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

Gonzalez hasn’t practiced on either Wednesday or Thursday because of a toe injury that briefly knocked him out of the Week 10 loss to the Seahawks. He said early this week that he wasn’t sure how things would wind up playing out for him this week, but the fact that he hasn’t missed a game since 2006 was always a good sign for his chances of getting on the field for the Falcons this week.

Douglas missed Thursday’s practice with a knee issue that popped up after he practiced in full on Wednesday, raising concern that he’d miss Sunday’s game. If he can practice on Friday, that worry will be lessened although both players seem destined for questionable designations on the final injury report.
