Niners not spending the week in Youngstown

Harbaugh

In each of the past two seasons, the 49ers bridged the gap between a pair of road games in the other half of the country by spending the week in Youngstown, Ohio.

This year, they’ll be retreating to San Francisco between Sunday’s game at New Orleans and the Week 12 visit to Washington (OK, Maryland).

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the 49ers won’t be staying in Youngstown or elsewhere between the two games. The decision was influenced in part by last month’s trek to London, and by the reality that the 49ers play their Week 12 game on Monday night, giving them an extra day.

In 2011, the Niners stayed in Youngstown between Week Three and Week Four games at Cincinnati and Philadelphia. In 2012, the Niners returned to Youngstown between Week Three and Week Four games at Minnesota and the Jets. In both seasons, the 49ers won the game played after the week-long stay in Ohio.

The DeBartolo family, which has owned the team for more than three decades, traces their American roots to Youngstown.
