Case Keenum will start against the Jaguars

Matt Schaub’s return to the Houston offense will not continue against Jacksonville in Week 12.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Monday that Case Keenum will be the starting quarterback against the Jaguars. Kubiak pulled Keenum in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, turning to Schaub with the Texans down 28-17. Schaub was able to lead the Texans to a pair of field goals, but the game ended with him arguing with wide receiver Andre Johnson on the sideline after the Texans failed to score on four tries from inside the Oakland 10-yard line.

Kubiak explained his decision on Sunday as one he made because of adjustments to the game plan and protections that Keenum wasn’t experienced with at this point in his career. Kubiak said he’d make the same decision again under the same circumstances.

“I didn’t want to put a young guy in a bad situation. I’d do it again. I tried to help out quarterback and offensive line,” Kubiak said, via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

If Kubiak does make the same move with Schaub at Reliant Stadium again, the Texans offense may have to be ready with the silent snap count they were forced to break out against the Raiders.
