Cecil Shorts calls his lack of targets “dumb”

Wide receiver Cecil Shorts had two catches for 20 yards as the Jaguars fell to 1-9 against the Cardinals on Sunday and he wasn’t happy about the way the Jaguars used him after the game.

With Justin Blackmon suspended and the Jaguars lacking other threats in the passing game, Shorts believed that quarterback Chad Henne should have thrown more passes in his direction and his comments make it sound as if this isn’t the first time he’s felt this way.

“I’m not holding my tongue anymore. To have one target until seven minutes left in the game, that’s f------ dumb. That’s dumb, period,” Shorts said, via Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. “I have to say something and sit down with them because it’s getting ridiculous in my opinion.”

Shorts didn’t elaborate on whether he was going to say something to Henne or the team’s coaches, saying that he’d said enough already when asked about where the problem originated. Shorts was covered by Patrick Peterson on Sunday, which is a difficult matchup albeit one the Jaguars didn’t seem overly motivated to work around in order to get the ball into Shorts’ hands.

Shorts didn’t back down from anything on Monday, which suggests they’ll be some conversations about the Jaguars offense this week. We’ll see what impact they have against the Texans next weekend.
