The second visit was the charm for John Skelton in Tennessee.

Skelton visited with the Titans on Monday and has signed with the team according to both Chris Mortensen of ESPN and Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. Skelton had previously visited with the team after Jake Locker’s hip injury, but they opted to stick with just Rusty Smith behind Ryan Fitzpatrick at that time.

Locker’s now out for the season with a foot injury and the Titans have decided to give themselves another option at quarterback over the final six weeks of the season. Skelton doesn’t hold much promise as a quarterback of the future, but neither do Fitzgerald or Smith so the Titans may think that they can do something better in the present.

Skelton spent time in Bengals camp over the summer and spent a week as the third quarterback in San Francisco earlier this season.

UPDATE 2:34 p.m. ET: The Titans have announced the move. Cornerback Tommie Campbell is headed to injured reserve.
