Texans claim Justin Rogers off waivers

Justin Rogers started the year as a starting cornerback for the Bills, but he’ll be trying to end it as a member of the Texans.

Rogers was claimed off of waivers by the Texans on Wednesday, one day after he was waived by Buffalo. The Texans didn’t have Kareem Jackson in the lineup against the Raiders last week and he missed practice again on Friday, which could make Rogers an insurance policy in the event Jackson can’t play.

Asking for much more than that might not work out well for Houston. Rogers struggled while starting the first five games for Buffalo this year and was a healthy scratch for the rest of the season before getting waived. The 2011 seventh-round pick had 23 tackles and an interception in those five games.

The Texans waived linebacker D.J. Smith to make room for Rogers on the roster.
