The last time he started a game for the Packers, quarterback Matt Flynn racked up huge numbers against the Lions and parlayed it into a huge contract from the Seahawks. Now Flynn appears set to start another game for the Packers against the Lions.

Although Packers coach Mike McCarthy has not yet named a starter for Thanksgiving in Detroit, he confirmed today that Flynn did the work with the first-string offense in practice.

Matt Flynn took the starter reps today. That’s where we are,” McCarthy said.

It sounds like Flynn will start, Scott Tolzien will be the No. 2 and Aaron Rodgers will be inactive.

“Aaron Rodgers went through the individual drills and was a limited participant. It does not look like Aaron is going to make it. He feels good but I don’t think he’s going to make it this week,” McCarthy said.

Asked if Rodgers’ chances of playing are “slim to none,” McCarthy answered, “Closer to none.”

And so Flynn will face a Detroit defense that still has the same head coach, same defensive coordinator and many of the same players it had two years ago, when Flynn torched the Lions for 480 yards and six touchdowns in a 45-41 victory. But a word of warning to all the quarterback-needy teams out there: If Flynn has another huge game in Detroit, that doesn’t mean you should offer him a huge contract in the offseason.
