Report: Incognito loses only two game checks

Last week, when Dolphins guard Richie Incognito agreed to delay his grievance hearing pending the outcome of Ted Wells’ investigation, it was obvious that Incognito received something in return.

Now we know what he got.  According to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports, two of the four weeks of Incognito’s otherwise unpaid suspension occurred with pay.

The suspension now continues with pay, as Jeff Darlington of NFL Network originally reported.  Per Garafolo, the paid suspension last two weeks beyond Week 13.

It means that the Dolphins will have to decide after Week 15 whether to reinstate Incognito for the final two games of the season, or to release him.

The Dolphins’ final decision could hinge on whether they still have a shot at making it to the postseason — and on whether they choose to keep Incognito from joining a team destined to play in January.  Peter King has reported that at least one playoff contender is interested in Incognito.

Regardless, the agreement means that Incognito has lost only (only?) $470,000 for his suspension, that he’ll get $470,000 that he otherwise would have lost, and that he’ll get another $470,000 to do nothing for two extra weeks.

  1. Crooked politics in the NFL now. Good job Roger. Unions, money, and absurd decisions as you go..

  2. “The Dolphins’ final decision could hinge on whether they still have a shot at making it to the postseason — and on whether they choose to keep Incognito from joining a team destined to play in January.”

Yeah. They don’t. They should just release him now and save the money.

  3. I Told Ya.

richie incognito, ireland, and turner will be quietly banished from the NFL in the off-season (with a fake non-incognito cover story).

  4. Let me see him try that crap in the Ravens locker room. Go ahead and leave Haloti Ngata a voicemail telling him what ur going to do to him and his family…let’s see how that plays out for ya.

  5. “$470k is still a lot to lose for some wedgies and some mean words.”

Which makes it that much dumber for ADULTS to be acting like that, huh?

Just food for thought, I’m sure plenty of “hazing” that goes on could actually be grounds for criminal punishment. So, you know….going to jail or getting put on probation is also a lot to pay for something so pointless and childish.

  6. With an alleged $5,000,000 net worth…. richie better start cutting coupons because with his stupidity and drinking…. he will waste all that money very quickly (in his impending post-NFL years) with lawyer fees/lawsuits.

  7. Hope Miami releases him so that we can get him to join New England. It would be great to see him playing with them in the Superbowl.

As for Martin, that mommas boy can move back in to his old bedroom for some momma coddling.

  8. This mess should have been kept in house, so who brought all this down on the fish, I think it was Martin looking for a way out and to keep his bonus money. Time to clean house. Bill

  9. Unsportsmanlike, low character cheater mike tomlin would welcome low character golf course creepster richie incognito on his 5-7 loser team.

  10. He shouldnt have lost anything…he got suspended for sending a private text message a year earlier that everyone but the recipient found offensive. I pray he gets cut and my team picks him up for a song!

  11. In the public’s eye…. the glazer pr campaign worked in certain demographics…. but…. educated individuals and attorneys could see the terrible position the NFL/Dolphins are/were in over this richie incognito scandal.

  12. “Looks like the shameless PR campaign by Jay Glazer for his buddy has worked.”

You’re claiming a 10 minute interview 3 weeks ago outweighed about 20 leaks from Martin and two separate NFL investigations and the Dolphin’s own likely internal investigation?

A more supportable theory would be that few, and especially not his own teammates, found the claims against Incognito to be credible.

True, but on the other side of the coin I doubt Martin is going to be made to look that great when all is said and done-such as him sending Incognito a like text and his lawyer quickly pouncing with it was a joke. Everything in life has a context, including some of the things Incognito supposedly did.

In the end-the NFL and the Dolphins will go on and Incognito most likely will most likely be playing somewhere next year. Martin? He will be hitting the talk show “somebody hurt my feelings” circuit as that will be his most lucrative opportunity.

  14. I am also willing to do absolutely nothing for the Dophins next week for $235K.

And I won’t even bully or abuse the other players. Not even with voice messages or by text message.

  15. “With an alleged $5,000,000 net worth…. richie better start cutting coupons because with his stupidity and drinking…. he will waste all that money very quickly (in his impending post-NFL years) with lawyer fees/lawsuits.”

He can always get a job as a P.E. coach throwing dodgeballs at the heads of the wormy kids who “need to come out of their shell”

  16. Another NFL DIRTBAG gets away with something that none of us in the real world would EVER get away with. Congratulations! At least you are consistent.

  17. So the Dolphins are now paying TWO of their starting o-linemen for NOT playing? This is how you compete for a playoff berth? This is how you protect your young QB? What a joke!

  18. It’s hard to wrap your head around the fact that despite the media firestorm,..this is basically still just about some text messages and impolite words. Wow.

  19. This cracks me up. The whole Mike “Trips” Tomlin fiasco is quietly being swept under the rug by the media while we’re STILL reading multiple posts/day about something that has NOTHING to do with the integrity of the game.

What happened, Mike? Your lawyer buddy Goodell send you an email asking you to save his ass again?

  20. Dolphins are screwed either way. Bring him back to play and people say what kind of organization is that to let him play with all of the crap he seemed to have started, or don’t bring him back and keep the running game as pathetic as it already is!! I am sure they want him back to help push for a playoff spot. If they are out of a playoff spot when he can come back he will be gone. Team loses no matter what decision is made.

  21. If the dolphins really think that what he said was wrong then they should release Incognito rather than suspend him.
Tbus they can act like they are outraged and he can move on and find another job. If tbey are not willing to cut/fire him then yes he sbould be paid!

    ——————–

He got away with…..what? He just paid $470k for a PRIVATE text message.

  23. …or are you suggesting he be more penalized because knee-jerk reactionists like you find him repulsive?

  24. If he were a free agent, I would want my Skins to sign him if he could play RT til the end of the year to help protect RG3… I don’t watch the Dolphins much, so I have no idea if he is a LT or RT/Both. He’s a football player / person who might just be wired differently, but I tell you what…. He will be the quietest player on the team between now & end of season. Then if no one wants to touch him & he was good for us, sign him to a 1 year deal. The Skins have got to upgrade to a reliable option at RT.

  25. “They should just release him now and save the money.” ——————————————————————————————————-
They can release him, but they don’t save any $$. He’s a vested veteran that was on opening day roster. He gets paid for whole season if released/cut.

  26. Sad story all the way around, Richie is one of our best linemen and Martin could have been a good RT.

Nobody wins in this Even Martin……
Time to move on from both!

I feel the Dolphins and the NFL should fight hard against what Martin and his team are doing.

  27. Right or wrong, Richie and Martin created a PR mess in Miami. Richie will catch on somewhere else. He has value and a team will be more than happy to pick him up. I’m doubtful about Martin, however. Richie can mind his P’s and Q’s, and be just fine. The real doubt is around Martin’s willingness/ability to play, period. I don’t think either will see the field this year, but Richie WILL be back, next year.
