Conflicting reports about Aaron Rodgers’ return to action

AP

The Packers didn’t play on Sunday, but the status of their quarterback was still a matter of interest throughout the day.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported early in the day that Rodgers would be “lucky” to play in Week 14 and that there was a chance he’d be shut down for the season if the Packers fell out of the playoff race before he’s recovered from a broken collarbone. Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that it will take a “strong consensus” from doctors and the team after he’s examined this week for him to return against the Falcons.

Those report was joined by one from Kyle Montgomery, who works as part of FOX Sports’ team covering the Los Angeles Clippers. Rodgers was at the Clippers game Sunday and Montgomery tweeted that Rodgers told him he’d be back in Week 14. Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com, who co-hosts Rodgers’ weekly radio show, reached out to Rodgers to ask when he would be back on the field.

“I don’t plan on playing ’til I’m 30,” Rodgers responded.

Rodgers turns 30 on Monday and we’re pretty sure we know what every Packers fan will wish for when he blows out his candles.

  1. I would sit Rodgers for the rest of the season. Get better draft position because it is obvious that the Packers need to improve the front lines on both sides of the ball.

  2. Does Florio still see GB as winning the division despite the loss to DET as he predicted? That’s a heck of a call. I wouldn’t bet one penny on anything that Ted Thompson controls.

  3. Ah well, at least the packers can look back to their Super Bowl game against the Vikings last week and say they didn’t lose.

  4. His return now can only lead to a lower draft pick and the possibility of another injury setback.

    Shut him down until OTA’s.

  5. Even if they shut Rodgers down for the season, the Packers will have a franchise QB under center next year which is more than you could say about the Vikings (that statement has been true for about a decade now)

They made up for it in Detroit….in fashion

Now the Packers just need a defense, and an OLine. An actual working first round draft pick would help too…

  7. Are you flipping high? Stafford probablhy is in the conversation for 5th.. Dalton and Griffin? Not even close..

Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rogers in any order you want. A case can be made for each.. Then you have the rest..

Give it up – no matter how much you try, “Super bowl game vs Vikings” is not going to catch on.

I didn’t think you could tie in a Super bowl? Huh! 😉

  10. The Bears lost today . So the Packers are still alive to win the NFC north . The Lions will lose their next 3 games vs Philly , The Ravens and NY Giants . If Rodgers comes back the Packers win the division. If He didn’t get hurt they would have won it already. It’s a shame because they would be 10-2 now . This great travesty and tragic loss proves with out a doubt that Aaron Rodgers is truly the NFL’s MVP with out any doubt. Only an IDIOT would say other wise.

  11. It’s so interesting to read the comments from the vocal idiocy (and minority) of Vikings & Lions fans. Although the Lions haven’t won an NFL Championship in nearly 60 years, they do have four NFL championships in their history, and they’ve got a very talented roster currently. As for the Vikings, the perennial losers that they are…it’s just comical to read the comments from the MENSA candidate Viking fans. The Vikings will continue to be what they’ve always been: Losers…Choke artists who will never, ever hoist a Lombardi trophy. At this point, your franchise is what your history says it is, and for the Vikes…that’s an inept, loser franchise.

As a Packer fan, it’s good to know the Vikes will be picking ahead of GB in the draft, that way they can select the early round draft bust before he slides down to GB. Just like in 2005, when the Vikes had not one, but two chances to grab Rodgers….and instead, took Troy Williamson and Erasmus James.

Just like a loser franchise would.

  12. Wait a minute!!! Weren’t packer fans extolling the virtues of Majik Matt Flynn??????????????????

Flynn was supposed to bring them to the promise land and instead embarrassed the packers on national tv.

Time for packer backers to egg someone’s house.

  13. I hope we get Rodgers back soon. With the big win over our rivals today, the hapless and tasteless Vikings are only 2 games behind the Packers.

2 games, and 13 World Championships.

  14. The Packers have been exposed as the horrible franchise they are since Rodgers has been out. They need the best QB in football just to be mediocre. They shouldn’t play Rodgers again this season because they will be stuck in 8-8 mediocrity for the next six years and this is their best chance to get a high draft pick.

  15. It doesn’t matter. There are too many alpha male teams in the NFC this year for a team like Green Bay to survive the playoff gauntlet.

Vikings didn’t have a need at QB back in 2005 as they already had one. Interesting observation from a guy who drinks the kool aid up in Green Bay.

By that logic the packers had 7, count them 7, chances to trade up to get Adrian Peterson before the Vikings nabbed him . 7!!!!

Maybe there is a kids version of PFT where you can go and try to make some valid points.

  18. Well with only 5 wins at this point and all of these other bottom feeder teams like the Jags and the Vikings continuing to win games, it might make sense to just IR Rodgers and play out the string.

I hate the idea as a fan but the possibility of landing a top 5 draft pick is at least some sort of consolation prize. “Conceding for Clowney” sounds better than “Sucking for Luck”.

I do agree with you filthy-the bears would be a more equal rival to the packers as your team has won 11 division titles and the bears 10.

    THE VIKINGS HAVE WON 18.

When you win 50% more division titles, we will consider you a rival.

  20. Packers are Kaput. Rodgers should not play until they get an O line that can protect. At least enough to keep him from getting tackled on every pass play. Would you drive your new corvette in a snow storm, I think not. Keep him out as long as possible. TT and MM need to take Capers and hit the road. New talent with new Ideas are needed badly and I don’t mean just players. If the brain trust in Green bay don’t make major changes in the off season the pack will not be back again next year. It was a miracle Rodgers didn’t get hurt last year as many times as he was sacked.

Erin being out 1 month has all pack fans just a bit testy…….

  22. Every team has injuries… its a matter of getting through them… the Packers are missing some great weapons on offense like Cobb Finley and obviously Rodgers….another thing is I understand the importance of flexibility on the Oline…but maybe they shouldn’t switch 3 positions when someone goes down. Doesn’t seem to work.

I think Rodgers injury also effected the defense..not being able to play from ahead as much lets teams good at running the ball hang around like the Giants or Minny unlike the first game.. I also think they miss Casey Hayward and he had a great rookie year and hasn’t seen the field.

  23. @vegasgreek: detroit is automatically gonna lose their next 3 to mediocre teams? 2 of which are at home? And we’re just supposed to take your blowhard assumption as expertice?? Ha. Ha. Ha. Get real.

  24. FilthyMcNasty and padraighansen

Keep on delivering that anti-Viking rhetoric because guess what? The Packers are not making the playoffs. Kiss on that, you suckers.

  25. Rogers is a great player. Im sure he wants to get back out there and play but he and the Packer staff need to be careful with him. Dont RGIII him and get him hurt again or worse.

    How the mighty have fallen…

Instead of saying “We still have a chance” they are now saying their team should quit to get better draft position.

Of course – after watching their team quit against the Lions on Thanksgiving – it’s the only thing they have to look forward to.

The only team with a winning record in the NFC North over the last 4 games is the Minnesota Vikings.

Some posters talk about a team as being hapless and tasteless – which to me would refer to a team where the players have quit.

The only team that has exhibited that in the NFC North is the O for November Green Bay Packers.

  27. Improve your draft position, sorry, I mean Flynn and Tolzein all the way!

Back up QB competition – live for 4 games!

  28. Josh McCown has accomplished more than ShAaron this season.
In other words, ShAaron’s novelty stock value isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

  29. It’s pretty sad that people think this is a good idea. If the players are cleared to play, and give their team the best chance of winning, they should be on the field. By the logic of most of these comments, any team that’s getting behind in the playoff race should pack up the team and call it a year. Maybe instead of playing out the rest of the season they could just forfeit their remaining games. If he’s healthy enough to play, get him out there. If he’s not, sit him out.

  30. Packer fans are like that 30 year old guy that hangs out with his car in the Kmart parking lot, watching the other cars cruise strip, hanging out with juveniles, and thinking about how great the past was in high school when he won a trophy. Ah those were the days.

Get out of the parking lot, Packer fans.

  31. If you don’t count any of this years September or October regular season games, or the 1929, 1930, 1931, 1936, 1939, 1944, 1961, 1962 or the threepeat from 1965-1967, or the 1996 or 2010 seasons, then the Vikings compare pretty favorably.

  32. If Rodgers can come back, he should… Sooner rather then later. Giving up hope on the season while there is even a slim chance is a mistake. The Lions have a few tough games ahead of them that they could lose, and the Bears are looking kinda rough. Getting him back in the game gives them the best chance to win, re-injuring is a risk… which if happens the season would be totally lost, and he would have 7 months to recover at minimum. It’s become clear that Rodgers carries this team, he provides momentum on both sides of the ball.

  33. “By that logic the packers had 7, count them 7, chances to trade up to get Adrian Peterson before the Vikings nabbed him . 7!!!!”

    ————————————————————-
It’s ironic that you used the word “logic”, because your post shows an entire lack of it.

Look in your Super Bowl trophy case for evidence. You can count the number of Super Bowl trophies Adrian Peterson has brought the Vikings.

At least the Packers are lucky enough to have a QB that’s skilled enough for there to be a difference between the starter, and the guy backing him up.. unlike Minnesota and Chicago.

  37. I’m sure his fear of the Steelers D has something to do with his delayed return.

  38. I am getting tired of these Vikings fans talking about division titles!! You say packer fans talk to much about Super Bowl titles. Here is a fact the all time series record is 56-49-2 with the packers leading the series…Division titles, come back to the table when you have something better than that!
