Ted Wells interviews Martin’s agent, family members

AP

As NFL investigator Ted Wells continues to gather information regarding the events that resulted in Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin leaving the team, the investigation has extended beyond Martin to those close to him.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Wells is interviewing Martin’s agent, Kenny Zuckerman.  Wells also is interviewing one or more of Martin’s family members.

The specific purpose of the interview isn’t known.  Zuckerman and/or Martin’s family members could corroborate certain allegations Martin has made.

Martin’s parents are both lawyers.

Wells also could be exploring the theory in some league circles that Martin simply wanted out of football (or at least Miami), that a hazing/bullying scenario was crafted as leverage to allow him to keep his signing bonus, and that the whole thing went out of control when the Dolphins summarily suspended guard Richie Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team.  (Again, that’s just a theory.  The facts are being determined by Wells.)

Wells previously interviewed Martin for more than seven hours.  On Thursday, Wells met with Martin again.

Wells also has interviewed many Dolphins players and other employees.  His final report will be made public.

  1. “The facts are being determined by Wells.”

That’s a good one. Wells doesn’t care about facts. He only cares about coming up with something to put in his report. What he will put in his report is what Roger Goodell wants him to put in his report. Goodell hired him. Goodell is paying him. What Goodell wants in the report is whatever he and the other owners and Wells have all gotten together and determined to be in the best financial interest of the owners and, by extension, Goodell.

Thus, Wells’ “facts” will be massaged, distorted, overlooked, fabricated, embellished, insinuated and misapplied to whatever end his paymasters tell him.

My problem with this theory is that completely ignores all the inappropriate behavior in the past that has come into light about Incognito and paints him as an innocent victim of Martin’s careful plan.

  3. the only teams i can see bringing martin in to thier locker rooms are the colts and niner’s only because of the stanford connection. this guy wanted out of miami, he may have punched his ticket out of the nfl for good. people know now that the allegations may not have been what the media originally percieved and the dolphins were not in the wrong so who knows what this guy will do to the next locker room and with him there the whole team will have to change thier locker room culture and walk on eggshells while he is around. not worth it, he is not even that good of a player to make it worth while anyway.

  4. I’m sure Jonathan Martin’s parents and agent wanted to be present (to make sure there is no funny business) when NFL’s Ted Wells slides the suitcase full of money to Jonathan Martin.

  5. That’s more than a theory. Thits is likely exactly what happened–except for the part about getting out of control due to Incognito. He was most likely specifically chosen to be the initial target because of his history. I would bet a large amount of money that Martin’s camp leaked the golf incident (first hand knowledge) in order to add to the media’s firestorm. Martin is not a true victim. He is a manipulator with lawyer parents at least one of which has extensive experience in just this kind of case. Go back and look at the “elements” of a harassment lawsuit and compare it to the “leaked” stuff. It is almost verbatim and step-by-step. This lawsuit was fabricated before Martin had his “breakdown”. I think he was waiting for the next joke so that he could launch this entire saga. It is despicable.

  6. Here’s another theory:

Jonathan Martin’s Harvard educated parents, Bigfoot, and seven Chupacabras orchestrated richie incognito’s golf course sexual assault to make Jonathan Martin’s case stronger in the grand conspiracy.

  7. Good thing he’s not playing for Mia this weekend. He’d end up filing another bullying complaint against the entire Steelers D-line.

  8. Do you really think Incognito’s golf course problem is why Martin walked out on the team? I think thats way off base but I guess anything is possible.

  9. Yeah… because nothing is more scary than the 5-7 steelers and their 18th ranked RUSH Defense in the NFL.

    LOL!!!

  10. Usually the Steelers are a very scary team but this has been an injury plagued team. They have won 3 of their last 4 games and the loss was by only 2 points. I’d have to agree with the crown man since Martin has proven to be afraid of his own shadow.

Well said. The “theory” has less basis in fact than dogs predicting earthquakes.

It amazes me how many of the Incognito sympathizers ignore the fact that (under Incognito’s leadership) the Dolphins o-line were giving up more sacks than any other NFL team.

The whole “honorary brother” thing shows that the Dolphins locker room is full of morons — all the players in that locker room should be the same color, Miami aqua green.

Jonathan Martin has a right to work someplace that isn’t run like an outlaw MC clubhouse. Objecting to that nonsense doesn’t make him soft.

  12. Martin is soft all on his own and dosen’t need Incognito’s past to use as an excuse. Martin just might sue the NFL. Not sure it will go that far. His argument of pain and suffering occuring from a mental breakdown caused by Incognito’s drunk act of chasing girls around a golf course sounds like are hard sell especialy when theres evidence of Martin threatening to kill Incognito’s entire family on voice mail. Pointing a finger at someone for bad behavior and then doing that same behavior? ….not sure thats going to work for him.

Well ignoring facts IS the ONLY WAY someone could support Incognito.

The guy has been kicked off two college teams, he called a hall of famer (who was NOT a team mate) a racial slur during a game, has been called the dirtiest player in the NFL, sexually assaulted a female at a golf outing, and is on video running around like an idiot screaming the N-word IN A PUBLIC PLACE.

  14. Martin will never play football again. That’s a worse cancer than T.O. No one wants that in their locker room.

  15. I think he picked his nose and wiped it under the table when he 12 also. All those in has past things you mentioned are from the past. Martin explaining in court that his mental breakdown suffering was caused by Richie’s bar vidieo, college history, golf course antics is laughable. The fact that he gave up sack after sack and then got demoted the week before he walked out in a temper tantrum is more rellevant. Over 1200 voice mail from him to Richie with many using the N-word is more relevant. Cop out excuse for a frustrated player with limited skills and lawyer parents.

  16. Why is Ted Wells interviewing Mommy and Daddy Martin? What incident did they witness? What a crock of crap,,,,,,Why didn’t Ted interview Incognitos Mommy and Daddy? I don’t see squash brained Martin playing in the NFL,,

I would imagine it has something to do with Martin’s communications with the team (Philbin) and teammates (Incognito and a couple others) directly contradicting the assertions put forth by Martin’s lawyers/parents. It isn’t adding up right and Wells is trying to determine the source of the legal scenario.

  18. Forgot to mention in the above post that the communications I referred to happened after Martin’s meltdown leaving the team. I believe the parents were involved in a conversation with Philbin a couple days after Martin left the team and everybody told Philbin there really wasn’t an issue with the team. The story has quickly and subtly changed a couple times since this all started.
