DeMarcus Ware says he needs to play better for Cowboys

Every member of the Dallas Cowboys’ defense probably had some soul-searching to do after allowing the Chicago Bears to score on every offensive possession (barring a final kneel down) on Monday night.

The Cowboys allowed Josh McCown to throw for 348 yards with four touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a 45-28 loss to the Bears.

The Dallas defense has struggled all season. They are allowing 427 yards a game – most in the league. It’s been a collective failure by the Cowboys defense but linebacker DeMarcus Ware is placing some of the blame on his shoulders as well. According to Calvin Watkins of, Ware says he isn’t playing up to the standard he’s expected throughout his career.

“At the end of the day I haven’t been playing like the DeMarcus of the past and I got to get back to that,” Ware said. It’s December (and) people always say the light turns on in December and you set yourself apart from everybody and I got to get back on track with that.”

Ware has managed just six sacks and 30 tackles on the season. His lowest career sack total was eight as a rookie in 2005 and lowest tackle output was 56 last season. He’s on pace to fall short of those marks in both categories this year.

Ware may be having a sub-par season by his standards, but he certainly isn’t alone in that regard in Dallas.

  1. Other than Dez Bryant , this team is still essentially getting by on the play of two of Bill Parcells’ last personnel acquisitions — De Marcus Ware and Tony Romo.

  2. Demarcus Ware built the prototypical model for what an NFL pass rusher should be. Even when he is at his worst he is head and shoulders better than any other pass rusher to ever play the game.

  3. Moar liek DeMarcus “Where?”, m i rite?! Get it? Because he’s virtually invisible in games that matter and only racks up sacks against bad teams in unimportant games, and his last name is Ware. It’s a nice play on words.

  4. Ware will say that because he is a leader, but the problem is the system. He is a OLB in 3-4 system, yet playing end in a 4-3. (and it no way is a shot at him) Dominant pass rushers (mostly now) are in a 3-4 with those OLBs getting after the quarterback.

  5. I have been telling Cowboy fans down here to trade him while he stilled had value in the offseason. As a Packer fan, I knkw what the change in schemes can do to a olb or de trying to make the change, it never pans out. Now they will likely have to cut him to relieve themselves of the cap space instead.

  6. How can this team continue to be so bad when they have such a great owner/GM? Ha ha ha Jerry Jones ha ha ha

  7. Why is this on the Seahawks Team Page?

DeMarcus, it isn’t your fault at all. You and hatcher are about the only two defenders on the field during live play, there is only so much you can do.
