Pats will face Dolphins without Dobson or Thompkins

In their first game with tight end Rob Gronkowski done for the season, the Patriots won’t be able to rely on a pair of promising young receivers to help fill the void.

The Patriots officially have downgraded second-round rookie Aaron Dobson and undrafted rookie Kenbrell Thompkins to out.

Dobson has missed the last two games with a foot sprain.  Thompkins, who missed the Week 14 win over the Browns, has a hip injury.  Both had been listed as questionable.

Also questionable for the Patriots are cornerback Kyle Arrington (groin), tackle Marcus Cannon (ankle), cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (knee, shoulder), tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (knee), tackle Nate Solder (concussion), linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee), and tackle Will Svitek (ankle).

  1. Amazing that this team has the inside track to homefield advantage in the playoffs, given their injuries this year. Can you imagine if they were 100% healthy? Scary thought.

  2. I bet the league would love to have their marquee QB’s Brady and Manning meet in the AFC championship game. Personally I’d find it boring but if the players decide the games then so be it, as long as it’s not orchestrated by the refs!

  3. Crap they’ve been missing Thompkins and he’s more important with Gronk’s absence. I was hoping he’d be back this week.

  4. .

So it’s Edelman, Amendola, rookie Josh Boyle, and retread Austin Callie at WR. And at tight end it’s the two Mikes, Hoomananui and Mulligan.

    What could possibly go wrong?

  5. @finsblood13
even if wake and them fins sack him 5-6 times brady will find a way trust me…the refs are there plus espn said he’s already been sacked more times this year than he has in any season in his career so he seems used to getting beat up haha

  6. You know, to all the sour saps out there whose teams are probably either done or close to it, how can you say the refs have been helping them out? Come on now, they help every other team out at some point during the season. Soft PI calls, holding/when not holding, intentional grounding even personal fouls. At some point during the season, every team gets a free 1st and 10 in their opponents territory, that eventually decides the outcome of the game. Usually in their favor. So, yeah. It’s just cause they’re the Patriots and they’re the best-looking guy in the bar that every other dude hates. If you want to talk about the Pats getting a break in that game, then I counter with the two lame calls the refs gave them in the Carolina game and the second meeting with the Jets. They had the chance for victory in both those games, and took the ‘L’ cause the refs botched the one call and suddenly sprung the new rule in the other (come on, pushing in football is a given). So, yeah it’s all even in my book. Suck it up and admit your team has gotten help from the refs many times before.

  7. Yes lets ignore the numerous bad calls and non calls that have hurt the Pats this year and pretend like they never happened.

By all means if it makes it a little easier for you to hate the Pats keep living in fantasyland.

  8. Yeah shockgee but it has been happening to every NE opponent for a decade, whether the refs or videotape, the Pats and Steelers always have the upper hand.

Yeah Cam is one poster boy. so poster boy vs a pster boy it’s really a toss up whom Goodell deems the winner, but vs Tannehill Goodell gives the nod to Brady.

  9. Now do we really think the Patriots were the only ones who used a video recorder to document the other teams practices, plays or whatever? I am guessing, no. Oswald acting alone is more believable than that. The only difference is, is that they were caught… or more so snitched on by a two-faced cheese eating rat. How much love is Mangini getting these days?

  10. Boo Hoo! Cry me a river! Pats have 2 rookies out and Gronk. In other news..the Dolphins will be without their starting left tackle Martin, their starting left guard Incognito, their starting TE Keller, their starting WR Gibson and their starting CB Patterson and their 2013 2nd and 3rd round CB picks. So BOOoo Friginnn Hoooo for the Pats. The Dolphins are gonna kick your butts!! This is the beginning of the changing of the guards in the AFC East.

  11. Given that about 25% of their salary cap is on IR, it’s amazing that they’re looking at the potential as the top seed in the AFC

That should garner Belichick coach of the year – but he’ll be snubbed.

  12. “This is the beginning of the changing of the guards in the AFC East.”

    Do you do stand up?

. . . because you have me rolling in the aisles.

  13. We don’t care who is missing tomorrow. If the Patriots are good enough then so be it, but I think they are going to be beaten. Everyone is fed up with listening to all their ailments, except the Patriot fans. Do you honestly think the rest of us care??? NO we do not!!!

  14. “So it’s Edelman, Amendola, rookie Josh Boyle, and retread Austin Callie at WR. And at tight end it’s the two Mikes, Hoomananui and Mulligan.”

I guess all you Patriots haters are all betting the house on the Dolphins. How can Brady and Belichick possibly win this game with that line-up?

You didn’t bet the house, did’ya? You have this creepy feeling that despite a depleted roster Brady and Belichick will win. . . because they almost always do. You’re smarter than your posts would otherwise indicate.

  15. Hopefully the refs call a fair game Sunday. Its not fair for the Phins to worry about the pats and the refs too. Tom brady yells at refs when they dont do what he wants like they work for him. Makes me wonder if they r on pats payroll with all the favorable calls they get. No other player could get away with following a ref and yelling at him like tom brady did…u would think that the guy was his butler or something and made a mistake.

  16. If the Dolphins can beat the refs they should have no problem beating the patriots. Fins take this one.

  17. Oh man. This is going to be tough game. After the Broncos game, I told myself I won’t ever doubt the Pats again, lol.

But in Miami, the Dolphins always play the Pats hard, and with so many out, both on D and O… whew.

I’m not going to doubt the Pats, but I expect this is going to be tight. Another nail biting game down to the wire.

  18. The Pats have no run defense and very few receivers; there should be no way they can beat a pretty good team on their own field, but, they never stop playing hard and things do happen. They have even overcome quite a few bad calls and non-calls that have gone against them this year, too. Let’s face it, though, the AFC sucks this year and won’t win the SB.
