Vikings running back Adrian Peterson wanted to play today against the Eagles, despite being carted off the field last week. But it’s not going to happen.

Sean Jensen reported on Saturday night that Vikings players had been informed that they’d be without Peterson today. Backup Toby Gerhart, who like Peterson was listed as questionable, is expected to miss today’s game.

That means the Vikings are down to Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard as their running backs.

Today’s meeting was slated to match up the two leading rushers in the NFL, LeSean McCoy and Peterson. Instead, McCoy will pad his rushing lead against the Vikings, while Peterson watches from the sideline.
