Jets, Giants shut out of Pro Bowl

Twenty-seven of 32 NFL teams have at least one initial representative for the 2014 Pro Bowl.

Then there are the Falcons, Packers, Jaguars, Jets and Giants, who each didn’t have a single player among the 86 Pro Bowl selections named Friday night.

In the case of Atlanta and Green Bay, injuries had something to do with the lack of Pro Bowl representation. One obvious example: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was playing at a Pro Bowl level when injured in November. Also, Falcons wideout Julio Jones made the Pro Bowl last year and looked on his way to another outstanding campaign before suffering a season-ending foot injury.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, are in rebuilding mode. While they have played hard for coach Gus Bradley, and while their future appears bright, they don’t have any real standouts right now.

This brings us to the Jets and Giants, teams with good defenses and shaky offenses. Were either club to have a representative, it would seem most likely to come on the defensive side of the ball. Moreover, it’s possible both teams could eventually have a player or two added to the club; the Pro Bowl talent pool is always subject to change.

Nevertheless, for now, the Giants and Jets are not only going to be home for the playoffs, but none of their players are Hawaii-bound.

  1. weird stat for the day – through 15 games, both teams have similar point totals!
    Giants – 274 for, 377 against
    Jets – 270 for, 380 against

  2. Popularity contest, once again. Eli Manning should definitely have made the Pro Bowl, and should be in major consideration for League MVP.

What other quarterback has been more generous in spreading the ball around. He has been voted Game MVP for every team that he has played this year. Not one team, zero, zilch, notta, has had anything bad to say about him all year long, except for maybe the NJ Giants.

    Where is the justice?

  3. Don’t feel too bad, G-men. Your squad has several players who talk trash at the Pro Bowl level.

  4. Rolle and Richardson both deserved bids. Rolle has been the heart and soul of the Gmen and leads all safeties in ints. Meanwhile Richardson has made a strong case for droy.

  5. These teams are so bad that the city won’t even let them play IN the city! And have relegated them to land in New Jersey that nobody else wants. At least the Meadowlands will see some real football when the Super Bowl is played.

  6. that’s cuz they’re be too busy serving drinks to staten islanders wit pauly d & snookie at the bon jovi north jerzee super bowl partee

  7. That just means none of their players will be put at risk in a game that nobody watches and is completely pointless. They should consider themselves lucky

  8. Both NY teams got shut out?!?

In a game, YES! *Giants – see week 3 and week 15 — Jets – see week 12 and 13 (not shutouts but close enough when your kicker is your best player).

But for the Pro Bowl? Say it isn’t so…

Well at least you still have the Yankees, wait, ummmm…

There is always ice skating for NY fans!

One player does not make a team, just look at the Minnesota Vikings.

  9. A team will never grow past the level of coaching it’s equipped with. For the Jets, what a sad case this is.
They’re not booming with great talent, but they are handcuffed by a head coach who needs to be FIRED and never re-hired, ANYWHERE!!!

  10. Didn’t Geno make the pro bowl. I thought he set a record this year for interceptions in a game, or season?
No Packer made it either and that’s also a good thing and shows, people making the picks know something about football.

  11. Such a disgrace. Say what you want about the Jets, but Mo Wilkerson is THE best D end in football hands down. And nick Folk won like four games this yr at the gun lol Has only one miss all season in windy Buffalo. Prater gets in cause of one goddamn kick at like 10,000 feet above sea level with the wind at his back. Ridiculous.

  12. Wilkerson got robbed. Josh Sitton too. He’s the only decent o-lineman on that team, and he’s easily one of the best guards in the entire league. Before you thumbs down check out any sites that rank players.

Yep – We all know Aaron Rodgers/Randall Cobb/Finley/Clay/Lattimore/Daniels/Jolly
    are all complete garbage.

  14. The jets are REBUILDING they were supposed to be 4-12 -ish. They ended up w/a shot at .500 heading into week 17. They have immense talent on defense & Wilkerson & Richardson got snubbed, even Snacks Harrison….
