The Jaguars have had their eye on the offseason for a while now and they’ve started acting on some of their plans before the 2013 season has officially come to an end.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the team has signed defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks to a four-year contract extension. The deal is reportedly worth up to $22 million, although there’s no word on how the deal is structured in terms of guarantees or bonuses at the moment.
Marks signed a one-year deal worth $1.2 million with the team before this season and has turned in a strong campaign up front for Jacksonville. Marks has four sacks, two forced fumbles and eight pass breakups while pressuring offenses from the middle of the line of scrimmage, a step forward from his first four years with the Titans.
Marks turns 27 next year, which puts him at an age where he can be a foundation piece for the Jacksonville defense over the life of the contract. That’s obviously the idea on the Jaguars’ end of things as they start working toward better results in Gus Bradley’s second year as head coach.
