The Chiefs’ backups on offense are making the most of their opportunity at extended playing time.

Running back Knile Davis has rushed for 79 yards and two TDs as the Chiefs hold a 21-14 third-quarter lead in San Diego.

Quarterback Chase Daniel has also played well for Kansas City, completing 10-of-14 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.

The Chiefs have clinched the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs. A win or loss Sunday will not change their seed, and coach Andy Reid has elected to rest numerous starters.

Nevertheless, the Chiefs have the lead over a Chargers club that will clinch a postseason spot with a victory against Kansas City.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 99 yards and two TDs in the first half, but he was picked once, and the Chiefs capitalized with their second touchdown of the game, a Dexter McCluster two-yard catch.
