Jim Harbaugh loses first assistant coach in time with 49ers

The 49ers are going to lose a “trusted agent,” one of Jim Harbaugh’s long-time assistants.

But it’s not one of his coordinators leaving for a head coaching gig, at least not yet.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, assistant offensive line coach Tim Drevno will leave the team after the season to take a job at Southern Cal.

Drevno works alongside 49ers line coach Mike Solari, and has worked with Harbaugh since 2004 at the University of San Diego, and followed him to Stanford and then the 49ers.

“It is with great emotion, pride and excitement that we wish Tim Drevno continued success in his professional journey at The University of Southern California,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “Coach Drevno and I have partnered for the last decade at The University of San Diego, Stanford University and the San Francisco 49ers. Tim has been a trusted agent, outstanding football coach and known friend every step of the way. . . .

“We wish them happiness in their new venture and I am confident the entire Drevno family will attack this endeavor with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.”

Drevno is the first 49ers assistant to leave since Harbaugh took over. I’m selfishly hoping there are more, if only because Harbaugh gives great statements when they do.
