Austin Collie returns to Patriots

There are some injury questions for the Patriots at wide receiver as they prepare for the start of their playoff run and that’s led them to return to a familiar face for the third time this season.

Field Yates of ESPNBoston.com reports that Austin Collie is back with the team and that he is going to take part in practice on Thursday. Collie played seven games with the Patriots during the regular season, catching six passes for 63 yards.

Josh Boyce has an ankle injury and did not play in either of the team’s final two regular season contests. Aaron Dobson re-injured his foot against the Bills in Week 17 and neither rookie wideout has practiced with the team this week. Left guard Logan Mankins and cornerback Alfonzo Dennard are also out of practice.

There’s been no corresponding roster move announced to make room for Collie on the roster. One of the injured players could be headed to injured reserve or the Patriots could make a different move with safety Devin McCourty likely to return to the lineup next weekend.

  1. Super Bowl !

Lol ok maybe not but he did make some nice catches the few times he was on the field this year.

Besides they can always cut him again next week if the more preferred options are healed up enough.

  2. The smell of desperation? You do remember that 24 – 0 lead they spotted you back in November, don’t you? Yeah, The Broncos have The Patriots quaking in their boots. Thanks for playin’.

  3. I’m guessing Dobson is going to IR and Collie was signed to replace him. I’m pretty sure Boyce, Dennard, and Mankins are just getting extra rest while taking advantage of the first round bye and will be ready to play for the Patriots in nine days.

  4. That play he made on 4 and 6 vs the Saints was money. It was an option route and with practically no practice time to harmonize with Brady, he ran the perfect route with all the money on the line. He read the D just as Brady did and? First Down. Next Play? Spike. Next Play? TD.

  5. Just as I predicted…he will be cut again on Thursday/Friday next week and signed again the following week

Currently he is renting Dion Branch’s tent outside Gillette 🙂

  6. Why do I get the feeling that Collie will make a big catch for the Pats in the playoffs at some point weather it be a TD or a key first down? And I wouldn’t be surprised if that big catch was the ONLY catch he has.
