Dexter McCluster missed one of the five games the Chiefs played in December because of an injury, but he made up for missed time well enough to be named the AFC special teams player of the month.

McCluster’s monster day against the Redskins in Week 14 likely played a major role in the decision. McCluster returned seven punts for 177 yards in the 45-10 Chiefs rout, including a 74-yard touchdown. He had five punts for 55 yards the rest of the month with a 32-yarder against the Chargers in Week 17 the longest of that group.

McCluster was named to the Pro Bowl for his work as a returner this season. It was a deserving selection for a player who returned 58 punts for 686 yards, both franchise records, and two touchdowns. He also caught 53 passes for 511 yards and two touchdowns on offense for the Chiefs.
