Saints break scoreless tie with second quarter field goal

They’ve stopped trading punts in Philadelphia and the Saints grabbed a 3-0 lead with 8:37 left in the second quarter on a 36-yard Shayne Graham field goal.

New Orleans looked like they would be the team falling behind after a Drew Brees interception led to the Eagles’ first sustained drive of the game. LeSean McCoy converted a fourth-and-one to give the Eagles a first down at the New Orleans 15-yard line, but Brent Celek lost eight yards on first down and Cam Jordan dropped a far too hesitant to throw Nick Foles for an 11 yard loss on second down to force a field goal try. Alex Henery missed from 48 yards and the Saints offense finally got in gear.

The Saints moved down the field using all three of their running backs. Khiry Robinson ran twice to start the drive, Mark Ingram had an 11-yard catch and Darren Sproles converted a third down play, but they had to settle for a field goal after Jimmy Graham was stopped just short on third down. Graham was ruled to have fumbled on the play with Fletcher Cox recovering, but the play was overturned on review because Graham’s shin was down.

The Saints actually lined up to go for it, but, for the second time on the night, were flagged for a false start on a fourth down try.
