Seahawks get late pick to advance to Super Bowl XVLIII

AP

The Seahawks kept giving the 49ers chances, but made the last play when it mattered.

Cornerback Richard Sherman tipped a pass into the end zone to linebacker Malcolm Smith for an interception, giving the Seahawks a 23-17 win over the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

That had Sherman celebrating, drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting Michael Crabtree after the play. But that’s a trade-off the Seahawks will take, after throwing the clamps on the 49ers at all the right times.

The 49ers offense was almost completely limited to quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who accounted for all but 25 of their 308 yards.

Kaepernick had 130 yards rushing and 153 yards passing, but threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter and fumbled to allow the Seahawks to head to New York in two weeks to face the Broncos.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks played a clean game, with Russell Wilson throwing for 215 yards and a touchdown, and getting through the NFC playoffs without an interception.

He’ll have to play better against Peyton Manning, but Manning also hasn’t seen a defense like this one yet.

    Total domination. Now to shut up these damn Seasquawk fans

  2. What’s up with Sherman saying Crabtree was talking trash about him? Was that just smack talk on the field during the game, or were their words between those two before the game?

  3. Richard Sherman makes a donkey of himself on National TV

    Yet Seahawk fans wonder why its tough for other teams fans to pull for them in situations like this.

  4. Good game both teams. Kaep played well but killed his team with turnovers. These are the 2 best teams in the NFL- don’t think Seattle can keep up with Peyton though- Seattle needs to score 28 to win IMO.

  5. Awesome!!! See you next year 49ers and save the complaints til pre season please. You will have a long time til then. All that cap talk from you guys hahaha

  6. I’m guessing Golden Tate thinks the clinching interception should’ve been called a touchdown catch.

  7. San Fran should have called a TO anyhow with 48 seconds left on a running clock. The clock hit 30 at about the time of the snap. Saving 18 seconds was the best use of 1 of those 2 TOs. You can’t save anywhere close to that amount with either TO once the clock goes down to less than 25 after the next play. They had lots of reasons to call a TO immediately, and virtually no conceivable scenario that waiting to use a TO is going to create an even bigger advantage.

  8. Wow, Sherman needs help! Those PED’s he’s been on have really messed with him. Now it looks like he’s got some anger management issues.

    He’s the kind of guy I would keep an eye on. The next Hernandez!

    That interview he gave, which was all of 10 seconds… he’s nuts!

  9. Richard Sherman is a classless individual. I hope he gets dominated by the Bronco receivers…

  10. I came into today thinking that I didn’t have a dog in this hunt, and I would be happy to watch the Seahawks, 49ers, Patriots, and Broncos as an impartial fan.

    But I have to admit I didn’t know much about Richard Sherman. What an imbecile. That fact that guys like that are glorified is what makes me not care if my sons play football. What a jerk and what a classless sport.

    I went from being impartial to not being able to cheer for this Seattle team. Go Broncos!!!

  11. I hate both teams, but was cheering on the Seahawks due to the classier QB until I saw Sherman’s classless interview with Erin Andrews. He proclaims he is the best ever, which will make it that much more satisfying to see Manning roast this punk in the superbowl.

  12. Where are all the 49er fans at? You talked all season that you were better. You got sent home after the best start to the game you could. Time to start saying, Jim Harbaugh can’t win the big game.

    Great time to be a Seahawk fan. One of the best Super Bowl are coming up..Number 1 offense vs number 1 defense. Manning vs Legion of Boom.

  13. After Richard Sherman’s actions and comments after the game. I have zero respect for the Seattle Seahawks. Hope manning breaks Steve youngs super bowl records in the most lopsided blowout in super bowl history.

  14. I’m neutral to this game, but Richard Sherman is just a sorry human being, and even Seahawks fans need to come to terms with this.

    What a piece of trash. Now the rest of America is rooting for the real class act, Peyton Manning.

  15. I have no skin in this game…so really don’t care, but watching this game told me two things….1) Seattle benefited from waaay to many bad calls 2) This Seattle team…led by something called Richard Sherman…is as classless of an organization as I’ve watched in some time…..GREAT post game remarks Sherman. CLASSLESS….and thanks to the refs….lucky.

  16. If starting a tattoo-festooned PUNK who can’t read a defense to save his life is your gameplan, I hope you have a better one!

  17. How can the Hawks have won? They were obliterated by the clever and treacherous vikqueen’s trading Harvin to them. GO HAWKS!!!

  18. Wow. Richard Sherman has some classy moves. Making a choke sign toward SF after tipping that pass? Classy. Acting all crazy and talking about himself in the third person in the post game interview? Super classy. What are the odds we find this model of civility on the police blotter soon?? Me thinks HIGH!!

  19. Congrats Seahawks, great game as was expected.

    All we can do is blame ourselves. 2 timeouts and we acted like we were in the third quarter.

    Know I know how you guys felt last year.. Not so good.

  20. Jim Harbaugh got caught yelling at a trash can and someone yelled “Jim, what are you doing?” To which he irately responded “Coaching the 49ers, what does it look like?”. “Jim…that’s a can full of garbage!” his friend informed him. With a confused look on his face, Harbaugh said “Huh, I guess I couldnt tell the difference.”

  21. I don’t expect Denver to win and I look forward to people calling Manning a choker for having the nerve to be on the losing end against the best defense and team in the NFL. Clearly that means you choked if you lose and it is nothing like losing to a team like the Giants like the Pats/Brady did twice. That wasn’t a “choke” but this will be if it happens….somehow.

    Hopefully Denver can pull off the upset and win.

  22. The Seahawks don’t deserve that win, Kap giving them the ball on a silver platter and the refs not making crucial calls against the seagulls. Thank God we don’t have to hear about the loud fans since the game is in New York, Im not a Broncos fan but I will be in 2 weeks

  23. I hope all you knuckleheads out there pay respect to the 9’ers…hell of a club and they put up a hell of a fight. But tonight is Seattle’s and the Hawks and regardless what happens in the SB that was a SB game just played. Go Hawks!!!

  24. As a Bronco fan I am happy that the 2 teams that are used to seeing success got bounced out of the playoffs! Denver is my team and I want them to dominate! But if Denver does not hoist that trophy then I am happy that a team that has never won one might. Its an old AFC west rematch! See you boys in 2 weeks!! woohoo! Go BRONCOS!

  25. I’ll handle this a little better than Sherman but this feels good to buried the 49ers and they’re overrated choke artist QB. Nothing feels better than beating those whiners except when you get a ticket to the Super Bowl in the process. Get ready for us. You hate Sherman and Hawks fans all you want. It’s great to be Seahawks fan right now and I can name one team that’s got it better than you Harbaugh. They just sent you home!!!!! As of right now we own you talk about your past all you want the present belongs to us!!!!!

  26. Kaepernick can run, but if you’re getting picked in the endzone for the win, you probably don’t deserve the SB. I don’t know if the Hawks can beat the Broncos, but its awesome to see D go against O. Go Hawks.

  27. Super Bowl is gonna be awesome this year. There’s gonna be great matchups across the board like Manning vs The Legion of Boom and Beastmode vs Pot Roast. Cant wait

  28. Disappointing game…
    The referees really did such a poor job and I hate when that affects the game. Then you get scum like Sherman and Carroll winning. Too bad. Hopefully Manning can play them well.

  29. Kaepernick played the same as the previous games, only difference is that Seattle actually took advantage of his mistakes by converting his bad throws into INTS.

  30. I’m sorry but after seeing Pete Carroll congratulate Maragosa for hitting the punter and getting away with it and then seeing Richard “Daddy Issues” Sherman roid rage on national TV, how can you be proud to be a Seahawks fan? What a classless group of individuals.

  31. This was a tough game to watch. Between the injuries, the turnovers, the horrible officiating, the cheap stuff going called and uncalled, two detestable HCs and plenty of other dislikable personalities on both teams, this game was far from the NFL’s finest hour.

  32. Ok since we have a state ok weed super bowl, how many failed test’s will we have? I say none. To avoid the problem (uncomfortable issue) the NFL will ignore it. see ya next spring!

  33. WOW, THIS IS THE 2ND BIGGEST SETUP IVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. NFL WANTED SEATTLE TO GO TO SUPER BOWL. IT WAS OBVIOUS AS GAME WENT ON. I RESPECTED THE NFL FOR YEARS BUT THIS IS A SETUP. SOMETHING BOXING WOULD DO. IM IN AWE OF THE HORRIBLE CALL AND NON CALLS. I THOUGHT REPLACEMENT REFS WERE THERE. HARBAUGH NEEDS TO CHECK WITH PEEPS AND IF CAN, SAY IT. SAY IT WAS A SETUP CAUSE IT WAS. UNBELEIVABLE. CANT BELIEVE NFL WOULD DO THAT. AS A RAM FAN, IM NOT ROOTING FOR A PATICULAR TEAM BUT WOW, I REALLY HOPE BRONCOS TAKE IT TO SEATTLE SINCE SEATTLE NOT GOOD OUTTA SEATTLE. HOPEFULLY DENVER DONT BLOW THEM OUT BUT WANT MANNING TO WIN AND DENVER. ONE OF THE HUGE REASONS IS THIS SETUP. NOW RICHARD SHERMAN, CMON HAVE CLASS. DONT ACT LIKE YOU LIVE IN WATTS. THOSE COMMENTS AT END OF GAME SOUNDED LIKE A GUY WHO BE STANDING AROUND TAKING THE BUS AT ROSA PARKS STATION(IN COMPTON ,CA.). ACT LIKE A GUY WHO CAME FROM COLLEGE AS HE DID. NOT A DROPOUT.

  34. Game 1 two of the greatest qbs ever.

    Game 2 two qbs who couldn’t read a def if their lives depended on it . Total sandlot crap. If that’s the direction of football , I’m going to have to invest in old game film from the 80s and 90s when real football was played.

  35. You can’t pass for 153 yards in a Championship game and expect to win. If you want to win the Super Bowl you have to throw the ball and let your RB’s run the ball. Rushing for 130 yards and passing for only 23 yards more than you pass as a QB doesn’t cut it.
    Pocket Passer = Super Bowl

    “Cannot play with them, cannot win with them, cannot coach with them. Can’t do it.”

  36. “The 49ers offense was almost completely limited to quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who accounted for all but 25 of their 308 yards.”

    That is the problem right there.

    Kaepernick is not clutch.

    Maybe we can stop hearing/reading about how great Kaepernick is now? He is a RB who throws the ball for about a 50% completion percentage. Wilson is far more poised and effective.

    Anyway, Broncos blow out the Seahawks. There is no way the Seahawks can keep up with the Broncos.

  37. What an embarrassment. These are the qb’s of the future of qb’s in the league? What a joke.

    Have fun with kaepernick niners, like everyone who knows football said, when it’s time for a big throw, this is not the guy you want at qb.

    Wilson, not going to win the sb against a real qb by throwing up prayers, keep missing on easy throws for first downs, Peyton will eat you alive.

    Nfl should be ashamed that either the niners or the Seahawks would represent the nfc in the sb.

  38. Terry needs to be reminded that the SB will be played in NJ and not NY. The stadium resides in NJ and not NY. There wont be a damn ball thrown in NY during the game. Not sure why these announcers cant get that straight.

  39. Was a good game, despite some egregious mistakes by the officials on both sides Kap still had a chance to put this game away at the end and didn’t.

  40. I’m guessing the 9ers would now love to have somebody who could manage the game better in the clutch. Alex Smith would never have 3 turnovers in the 4th. You made your choice, Jim hairbow.

  41. Late pick and not one niner fan can complain about Pi on that play bc it WAS CRABTREE PUSHING SHERMAN ..couldnt be more humbling for Crabtree after pushing and calling the Seahawks average defenders …

    Go hawks ..

  42. NFL is corrupt as obama.

    If u don’t think the refs were told to make Seattle win, u r either a liar or dont know football

  43. 1. Kaepernick was fairly good. What can you expect for an away game in Seattle? Anyone who thinks he’s not the answer is an idiot: Super Bowl last year, AFC championship game this year, 100 yards rushing in the first half of this game…the guy is good. That said, enough of those stupid beats headphones ads.

    2. Sherman, much like most NFL players, is on steroids. What we saw was he roof rage combined with the enthusiasm for winning the game. Sherman is a tool and will end up broke a few years after retiring. Let him have his moment.

    3. Wilson is a decent QB but will not be good long-term. He got away with quite a few mistakes but Lynch and his D saved him. He should look good against Denver’s D, but he won’t be on par with Luck in two more years.

    4. Denver will obviously be the Super Bowl darling everyone outside of Seattle will be rooting for.

  44. Normally, the commentators go off on a d-back who tips the ball up instead of slapping it down. I guess hindsight is pretty handy.

  45. That has to be one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame because that was an intense game that would have been a whole lot better had the officials called it straight down the middle.

  46. Can’t even believe all the Hawks haters on here!! Let’s hear the lame excuses for your loss Niners fans. PEDs? Crowd noise? PI and holding? Help from the refs? Get over it. You got outplayed, fair and square. Kaep choked per his usual in Seattle. Lynch ran all over your D. The LOB onwed you ALL night. Better luck next year, whiners. Seahawks Superbowl bound, baby!!!

  47. Hats off to the Seattle Seahawks. You guys earned every bit of this Super Bowl trip. Good luck

  48. How awesome would it be for the league to suspend Sherman for one game for “Violating the league’s player conduct policy.”

  49. Well, those noise cancelling headphones from Beats by Dre will be much needed for Kapernick after choking that game away in the 4th Quarter.

    “And you can tell everybody, you can tell everybody, you can tell everybody, I’m heading to the first tee”.

  50. I love it! Keep on hating! All week long nothing but trolls spouting about the 49ers were going to put Seattle and Hawk fans in the ground. And now? Go on, tell me how Denver’s gonna do what New Orleans and SanFran didn’t. See ya in two weeks. Go HAWKS!

  51. Seahawks = dirty players; Refs were in their favor . Again the bookies bets influenced another thrown game- no way (legally) should the hawks have won this game. The kicker 5 yard penalty should have been 15 yds roughing kicker and niners would have kept the drive going. And funny how NO-ONE happen to see the niners player recover the ball on the goal line stand and failed to give the ball to the niners. They are ALL rigged.
    Seahawks win should be marked with an * – totally un-deserving to be going to the SB.

  52. Respect to the true fans and no love lost for the babies haha. Seattle is very capable of beating denver, good luck to both teams in the sb. See you next year 49ers

  53. Sure was easy to tell which team Referee Joe Testosterone has his money on. I wonder if he make more bribes doing NFL games or NBA games? Not that I really care, if he wasn’t so blatant, because Denver will kick either butt.

  54. We’re going to Super Bowl FORTY-SEVEN???? In New Orleans??? What a relief! Not having to go to frozen New Jersey. Thanks Mike.

  55. If Lynch can run the ball and the Seattle offense does not have any turnovers then they can win over Denver. In additiont they have to have reasonable control of the clock. They do not need 40 minutes out of 60 but at least 28-29 (minimum) minutes out of 60.

    Seattle got lucky. SF was the better team tonight.

    No it was just Kap and he choked it away…
    He accounted for all but 25 yards of offense…
    There is no “I” in team son…

    Go Hawks

  57. The forty winers are a class less team filled with dirty players coached by a class less man. The fans are no different and the Ca bay area media deserves this team.

  58. Harbaugh was a class act in the post-game interview! Thanks for giving credit to the Hawks Sir. Now, it’s on to New Jersey and our first Lombardi trophy!!! Go Hawks!

    Suck it Kap kicking the ball when it was loose and earlier when Seattle’s gunner was taken out out of bounds…. you whiners lost enjoy your off time We see your whiner colors starting to show!
    GO HAWKS!

  60. First off, yes, Richard Sherman is a giant jerk. I was pulling for the Hawks, but now that they’ve survived, hats off to the 9ers for a great postseason run and a truly gutsy effort. And I totally get the hatred for the Hawks, but don’t blame the outcome on the referees. Penalties were about even (in fact, the Hawks had one more than the 9ers), the difference was (as in most NFL games) turnovers. Hang in there 9er fans, you nearly pulled this one out and will likely be back in the SB again soon. One thing the 9ers need to address, however, is late-game play calling: curious calls at the end of last year’s SB and again today (why not use your timeouts on that final drive and why try to force the ball in to the endzone there at the end when there was still time on the clock?).

  61. I was hoping Manning loses the Super Bowl because I honestly don’t like him, but after seeing the 49ers get ripped off on critical bad calls all game & that classless Shermann & those imbecile Fans throwing food at an injured Bowman I truly hope Broncos annihilate & embarrass Seahawks in one of the most lopsided victories in the history of the sport.

  62. I’m a Broncos fan that lives just south of Seattle. I’m happy with the results of the games today, but the thing that stands out most to me today is the image of Navarro Bowman giving up his body to get a turnover. I’m not sure how this wasn’t called correctly, but I guess it’s over now.

    Hope he’s OK. Congrats to the ‘Hawks.

    Go Broncos.

  63. As a Seahawks fan I make no excuses for Sherman his play did the talkin’ there was no need for that. I was so happy to see the interseption then he goes and blows the moment. I’m still excited as hell but I actually hope the league fines him and the coaches tell him to shut his mouth. Go Hawks!

    Hawk fans are the most delusional, obnoxious idiots I’ve ever encountered
    ————————
    Obviously you’ve never met a Viking fan.

  65. I am a niner fan. I am sad they lost. I hope the Seahawks represent the NFC west with a super bowl win. However, Sherman is a moron. If you are a seahawk, you should be embarrassed. This guy is everything you don’t want to be in a competition sport. He ruined the victory single handed.

  66. To read the comments of many Seahawk fans, you’d think you blew the Niners out. You were fortunate to come out on top in a very hard fought battle. The Niners turned it over in the second half and the Hawks were able to take advantage of it. Enjoy your win but show some class. Good luck in a couple weeks.

  67. All these people trying to act like you just now started disliking the Seahawks – but you’ve hated us all along. We don’t care. We are considered the best fans in the NFL, and the fans that give our team an edge to win – best in NFL.

    Hate all you want, cause you wish you were us. Go Seahawks!

  69. All I must say is you Whiner fans are pretty hilarious when you live up to your name.

    What a great game we just watched. LOB destroyed Vernon Davis with Kam against. Picked off Kaepernick twice and made him fumble multiple times with Bennett and Avril. Deer in headlights is what I have said when its versus a top defense.

    Wilson didn’t even have his best game but he was money when needed. Beast mode playing smash mouth along with game changing defense. Seattle Seahawk football to the Super Bowl vs Manning.

  70. As a die hard 49er fan I have to say we didn’t deserve to win this game. Our defense played outstanding as always, but our offense had plenty of opportunities to put this game away and choked. Kaepernick could learn a few things from Russell Wilson. He knows how to make the big plays when they count. Good luck to to the Seahawks, they earned it.

  71. “thereisfootballwestofjersey says: Jan 19, 2014 10:18 PM

    Hats off to the Seattle Seahawks. You guys earned every bit of this Super Bowl trip. Good luck.”

    Good game to the Niners too – every bit as tough and hard-fought as I figured it would be. Came down to the last possession. Both of our defenses are better than our offenses. Wilson is probably a little too conservative, and Kaep maybe a little too free with the ball.

    These teams will keep on battling each other for the next 5 years.

    Hope Bowman comes back full strength.

    I do love this site for the amount of info I get on my favorite sport, but the comment board gets pretty hard to take. You’d think Seattle had just stolen an orphanage’s xmas presents, instead of having an overexcited DB with a big mouth. So much hate.

  72. LOVE to hear all these 9ers fans WHINE about the refs. Take you medicine for once. You got gifts last week in Charlotte over and over again. Last year against Atlanta was another one. You guys should be used to losing your last game of the year by now. Hahhaha

  73. I like how the haters give the Hawks no credit. It wasn’t the refs, it wasn’t the nfl. It was marshawn and our defense. Get over it. The refs didn’t make Kaperchoke throw those picks. The refs didn’t make the niners unable to stop lynch. We were better. We’re the bad boys of the nfl and it feels good. We don’t care if you hate us. You think that matters? It’s not a popularity contest it’s about the Lombardi. Trust me if that trophy comes to Seattle the last thing the 12th man is gonna care about is a bunch of butt hurt trolls on the internet!

  74. it is sad that the 9ers fan can’t give it to the hawks. they definitely outplayed them. Denver has not seen a defense like Seattle. Put your money on Seattle.

  75. GREAT game! Grats to the Niners, they brought all of it. Sucks to see Bowman hurt. Hopefully he is ready to go next time we meet.

    Cheers to an DOMINATING NFC West! Nobody wants to play the West.

    GO HAWKS!

  76. Kaperdick was foolish to throw at Sherman in the last 20 seconds with the game on the line. What was he thinking? Sherman went off because it was a disrespectful move by the Whiners to think they could beat him with Crabtree.

  77. Uh, Sherman broke up the big play to end it all, after Crabtree ran his mouth all game. You fools wished you had the best CB in the game, who also backs it up EVERY game. So long cheap jail tattoos. ..forehead you are next!

    Great job refs, The real 12th man. Intentional grounding should have been called cost us 3 points. denver going to get the W on a neutral field.

    YOU GUYS ARE SO RIGHT! ALL SEATTLE FANS DISPUTING AND GIVING OUR COMMENTS THUMBS DOWN ARE LIKE THEIR COACH. CANT ADMIT THAT GAME WAS LIKE A BOXING MATCH, A SETUP. NFL WANTED SEATTLE IN SB AND REFS DID AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BY LOOKING OTHER WAY WITH ALL THEM REFS ON FEILD AND SCREENS ON STADIUM BUT MISSED MANY CALLS/NON CALLS. HMMM SMELLS LIKE A SETUP TO ME. OR LAST YEAR WHEN THEY “REALLY LOST” THE GAME ON MNF. CARROLL WOULD NOT ADMIT THEY LOST. WELL REST OF NFL KNOWS AND YOU WILL HEAR AND READ ABOUT ONE OF WORST OFFICIATED GAME/SETUP.

    WATCH IMMA GET MANY THUMBS DOWN…LOL. IS FUNNY. OH SEATTLE FANS. ALSO ADMIT THAT CLASSY SHERMAN MAKING A FOOL OUTTA HIMSELF TODAY, AGAIN.

  79. The worst officiated game I’ve ever watched. Not sure who they pissed-off in the NFL main office because San Francisco got hosed.

  80. Why do people keep saying that they’re now going to root for Denver, because of this or that, as though it is somehow relevant?

    No one cares who you, or anyone else, roots for. You’re just some dude on a couch somewhere, irrelevant. Your rooting isn’t some “currency” that the Seahawks or their fans should feel incomplete without having.

    Get a grip.

  81. Roid rage? C’mon man that was pure adrenaline that caused Sherman to make those over the top statements. Some of you who keep suggesting PEDs or Adderall are behind his interview or play are simply those allowing their emotions to get the better of them. The rest, well, you were probably invested in the Niners or a Manning fan, which I am by the way, and wanted to see either a quest for six for you Niner fans or to see Manning get one more SB title before he retires. IMHO

  82. Usually about the turnover battle and this game was no different. Kap said he puts the loss on himself. That’s what he needs to do. Take responsibility. 49ers are a running team first and they had nothing going there. That was huge obviously. The next time the 49ers play a complete 60min in a big game it will be their first in a long time. May I suggest using Crabtree as a decoy next time. Crazy not throwing to Boldin. One final note. Losing SUCKS!!!

  83. “He’ll have to play better against Peyton Manning, but Manning also hasn’t seen a defense like this one yet.”
    ———————-
    Actually, Manning saw a defense like this one on Aug 17th. Toward the end of the first half, he was caught by the cameras throwing a small tantrum on the sideline.

    This is the guy who has lost more preseason games than any other current NFL player. He knows better than anyone in this game that preseason games don’t mean anything more than player evaluation.

    But he threw a tantrum anyway.

    Manning knows exactly what’s coming in two weeks.

  84. All these people saying Seattle are cheaters, take Aderal, and are classless are trying to find excuses as to why this team (and especially defense) are so good. The facts are that the players on this team have been tested multiple times THIS season and have passed ALL PED tests and now they are going to a Super Bowl. Can’t blame the PED’s folks, that excuse is getting so tired. Yes Sherman likes to talk and sometimes it is a little obnoxious even as a Seattle fan but that’s what he does. If he was on your team you wouldn’t be complaining, the dude played lights out all season. There are a lot of other guys on this team that are very likable (Wilson, Thomas, Wagner, Robinson, Lynch, Okung, Unger, etc). Haters keep on hating, it only fuels are team to win.

    49ers played a hell of a game; this was a dogfight like everyone expected and wasn’t as pretty as Denver’s win but these were the best defenses in the league. Super Bowl 48 should be a great game!

    Richard Sherman makes a donkey of himself on National TV

    Yet Seahawk fans wonder why its tough for other teams fans to pull for them in situations like this.
    **********
    As a Seahawk, and all teams Seattle fan (I live in the Denver area), Sherman could tone it down just a bit.

    He did make an an ass of himself but, as a Seahawk fan from their inception, no one outside the PNW (depending on locale) truly roots for anything good to happen to any team from this location.

    If you need any evidence of that, just read posts on this site.

    Maybe Seattle needs that ‘bad apple’ so-to-speak to help put the city on the on the map, regardless if it’s good or bad pub.

    As I’ve said over the past few weeks; if Seattle ends up winning the Super Bowl, it will tick off a lot of people on this site, along with national pundits. It looks to be true so far.

    All the negativity aside by others, he’s a helluva corner that not too many teams would turn down. Nor would those fans object to having him on their team.

    Three years in the NFL, 2 time All Pro. He wasn’t the starter until an injury by another his rookie season. Like it or not, he’s got skills….. He just needs to tone it down. Just a weeeee bit.

  86. Your team lost to a hated division rival. I’ll bet that hurts but no amount of smack talk can erase that fact. YOU LOST.

  87. I appreciate all Kap did throughout the game. But for the second year in a row, with the game on the line, a few seconds on the clock, and a title in the balance, Greg Roman put his trust, and the outcome of the game, on the arm of a 50 percent accuracy passer who has difficulties with his progressions, locks on to his receiver and forces throws when he should just throw away. We had a first down with 30 seconds and two time outs. In that situation, do what you do best. Perhaps a run option with Kap rolling out with the option to pass if the corner comes off his man. The point is, we had time to run several plays that were less risky. The one we ran is one you call when it’s fourth and goal, not first and goal.

    Hats off to the Seattle Seahawks. You guys earned every bit of this Super Bowl trip. Good luck
    *******
    Excellent year for the 9ers! And, what Harbaugh has done since he showed up. Amazing! Kaep and Wilson will be battling it out for the next 10-12 years.

    San Fran and Seattle should be back at it next year. If AZ continues doing what they did in the second half of this year, holy schnikies! The NFCW will be tougher!!

    I feel sorry for the Rams.

    Hope the Gods of the NFL will have Seattle win the SB. Then I can die happy. Due to all the other BS Seattle has endured the past, well, my life time.

  89. Great game San Fran! Why don’t the rest of you busters give respect where respect is deserved? Its a zero sum game. Seattle has been patient, loyal, and earned this trip to the SB so man up and respect the outcome and game. Let’s all hope for a great SB and to have the best team win.

    Great job refs, The real 12th man. Intentional grounding should have been called cost us 3 points. denver going to get the W on a neutral field.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    you should blame the refs for telling the niners to turn the ball over 3 times
    your great niners defense couldn’t stop lynch, how in the world is denver going to do it?
  91. I can’t comprehend most non-hawk fans whining about the game. Bad calls happen.
    The Bowman thing was tragic but the call at least was made null by the fumble on the very next play.
    The roughing the kicker call was correct. Rewatch the play. The punter brushed his leg against the defender’s shoulder and then hammed it up to high hell like he’s an international soccer star. it was incidental and that’s what the officials ruled.
    And do either of those things change the INT’s Kaep gave up or Gore coming up BONE DRY today?
    Sherman is an intense guy and likes to run his mouth. Get over it. If you want sportsmanship and class then go watch baseball and pretend it’s still pure. FOOTBALL IS AN EMOTIONAL GAME. You want Sherman to shut up? Stop him. I sure as hell know i’d love him on my team.
  92. Who’s got it better than you?? The Seahawks, they’re going to the Super Bowl. Enjoy the offseason Santa Clara!!
  93. I love the Hawks but I wish Sherman would keep his mouth shut. Don’t judge the Seahawk organization and fans for some stupid remarks by one or two players or some of the fans.
    Rants from rams1999 and other whiners put Sherman’s interview to shame.
  94. The whining about the officiating is pointless and unjustified. On the running in to the kicker call the rusher was laying still on the ground and contacted in the side when the kicker landed and flopped extravagantly to draw a roughing call. Hawks were flagged for the contact, and Harbaugh declined the 5 yd penalty because it would not result in a first down. The missed fumble call was in the middle out of view of officials, so since there was no fumble observed, it was unchallengeable nor subject to review. They did not have the benefit of slow motion review and honestly missed it. Although there were a number of other borderline plays each way, they were within the bounds of plausibility.
  95. Hopefully now that the Niners are out of it their hater fans will stop trolling the blogs.
    The Niners used to be my second favorite team (especially when the Seahawks were in the AFC) but between Kaepernick and Harbaugh and so many hater fans I’ve grown to despise them like a true Seahawk fan.
  96. Horrible officiating kept this game a bit closer than it should have been and tainted an otherwise hard fought game.
    Kaep’s TO’s in the 4th qtr handed Seattle a trip to the SB. Hopefully he loses the stupid beats earphones in pressers next year. Dre et.al is about to find out what over-exposure means.
    Dick Sherman is setting himself up to have a multitude of people celebrating when Karma decides she’s heard/seen enough and whacks him upside the head.
  97. Good game 49ers! The 49er fans out here in Seattle are actually cool and chill, not like all you butt hurt 49er fans on the Internet. Anyways this is just the start of an amazing rivalry, one of the best games I’ve seen. #GoHawks
  98. We get Percy Harvin back for the SB. Denver’s secondary will become exposed. With Harvin, Tate, and Baldwin in trips and the threat of Beast Mode rambling or Wilson scrambling, It is going to be difficult to handle Seattle’s offense.
    In addition, Manning better have nibble feet. Seattle has wave after wave of pass rushers (Avril, Bennett, Clemmons, McDonald and Irvin).
  99. Suddenly, Percy Harvin feels much better and is cleared to play! Guy only plays when he wants to! Problem is, he’s an amazing player when his head is screwed on right. Shame that only happens when Percy feels like it…
  100. Niners fans “It was the refs fault”
    Why don’t you mention your QB turning the ball over 3 times in the 4th? I’m sure the refs told him to do that lol
    As far as the refs go, the officiating has been horrible all year for every team. Bottom line is 49ers came out with a good plan. The difference: Seahawks’ 2nd half adjustments. Kap wasn’t running wild like the first half. The fumble call was bogus, but you got the ball back the next play. So that offsets. Stop blaming the refs and take a good look at your QB. Once the Hawks stopped him from scrambling and made him throw, it was game over.
  101. Is this like a daycare complaint site, those of you who continue to cry over every last thing (peds, cheating, rigged games, classless this and that) to those of you who continue to make educated (original) comments I thank you. See I’m a hawks fan who witnessed a great game, that bowman injury was brutal and I hope he fully recovers, not to mention he made a great fumble recovery. But those of you whining about that part, that blown call had no effect on the outcome. I thought Sherman’s antics were a bit overblown, but shutting up Erin Andrews was about time, at least he is real unlike her fake self. Respect to harbaugh and the 9er fans who aren’t Whiney trolls, great game, always our toughest opponent of the year! …
  102. Clearly the Niners kept the wrong QB. Alex Smith must be laughing his ass off and I don’t blame him. Kaepernick was a complete bonehead in the 2nd half. He clearly has a lot to learn. Whether he does is open to question.
  103. Today I pay tribute to the Wisconsin Badger Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. You effectively wiped the smirk off the face of Jim Harbaugh. As if being a former Chicago Bear isn’t bad enough, he kept making it look like the 49’ers were invincible. Wrong. One smirk gone.
    A legend in his own mind, Colin K., came up short yesterday. I noticed he wasn’t smirking at the end of the game.
    Two smirks gone.
    Heaven.
  105. According to what I saw, Sherman was a professional and when he blocked the catch, was man enough to offer a “good Game” comment to Smith, with Smith retaliating by offering a rude and personal comment to Sherman, as well as shoving Shermans face with his hand, that is unsportsmanlike on Smiths behalf, Talk about Smith being a poor loser!! If Sherman “overreacted”, Than Smith needs to be reprimanded for his verbal AND physical attack on Sherman. Overall, I was not a fan of any of the teams, but the Seahawks put up a heck of a show!! I will be rooting for them at the Superbowl.
  106. At 10:31pm deepthreat88 says ” Richard Sherman is ghetto. ” …
    What does that have to do with anything ?
    Most ridiculous comment I’ve ever seen .
    If your going be a sports fan , GHETTO is the last thing you should be concern about in professional sports !
  107. Seattle’s got the wealthiest owner in the NFL, so they must have paid those officials, right? I mean, when calls go against them they claim it can only be because the least wealthy owner in the NFL paid the refs. So when all the calls go for them in a game that was much closer than SBXL, it’s simply must be that the game was rigged. And I’m sure we’ll be hearing about it five years from now because, heaven knows, Seahawks fans can never stop whining about bad calls … well, at least the bad calls that go against them. They’re remarkably silent about the bad calls that go for them.
    Go Broncos!
  108. The 49ers are the only team in the NFL that I enjoy watching lose because of the a-hole personality of their head coach. Watching Harbaugh whine and bitch and cry and grit his teeth after every call, run out on the field and then try to wave his other coaches back onto the sideline… it was pure gold for me. I take pleasure in his suffering and disappointment, for he is one sorry excuse for a human being. After this year the 49ers will be on the down-swing, their brief brush with the NFL’s elite is over, and Harbaugh can toil away in the relative obscurity he deserves.
  109. Manning’s Broncos have scored 24 and 26 points, respectively, against two of the worst defenses (SD/NE) in the NFL the last two games.
    How are they going to compete against the best?
    PS – can someone please tell those whining 49ers fans that their team lost and is not going to the Super Bowl.
  110. Bad calls both ways, 66 yards against the Hawks 65 yards against the 9ers. The game was yours to be had in the first half… 10 – 0 but the end score was 23-17. Keep whining and making excuses.
  111. Really? Bad calls go both ways? That’s not what Seahawks fans have been whining since Super Bowl XL 🙄
  112. All the talk about “he’s classless”, “he has no class”, “I was going to cheer for the Seahawks until I saw Shermans interview”…….. seriously who cares????
    Seahawk fans do Not Care whether you think Sherman has class or not, this is football not some tennis match…… If a player talks smack out of nowhere is one thing but there is history between those two…. that being said Sherman talks the talk BUT ALSO walks the walk… he is clearly the best DB in the game, like it or not.
    So PLEASE DO NOT cheer on our HAWKS… we don’t need bandwagon fans… go cheer on those ponies….. they’ll definitely need the encourgement…. Peyton definitely is the better QB however Denvers receivers and RB’s don’t stand a chance regardless…….. hope they tape up his ankles nice and tight….
    Yes, SF69ers talking about class.
    Wow Deb, you sue whine a lot for someone whose team is irrelevant.
    Irrelevant.
    Irrelevant.
  116. He likes to get into his opponents’ heads while playing…
    What does that give you when a game is over…
    I feel he just enjoys hearing himself talk.
  117. WOW, is my first thought. I live in Seattle so I will try to be as fair as possible.
    We had a bit of a struggle getting things going. The 49ers were extremely strong the first half. The no-fumble call bothered me and as much as I hate to say it, I didn’t feel bad that they got the ball back with better position than they would have had. As Seahawk fans, contrary to what some might think, we are not looking to win a game based on bad calls, we have faith in the different team players that make up the whole.
    As others have already stated, there are always going to be bad calls in a game, but for any team to come back against an amazing team like the Niner’s, you have to give them credit period, it takes talent. And remember, it came down to the last seconds. It was rather frightening to say the least. lol
    Sherman? Well for one, he is only 24, so I am sorry to say it but young guys that are amped up after such a emotional game are going to say some things that maturity would dictate otherwise. But if he had just went off on how much better the Hawks were then any other NFL team or how he was better than anyone else, then I think I would have been very disgusted. But folks, he was not saying this to America to promote himself, he was using the podium (unwisely) to say something back to Crabtree. It was directed at him and pretty much him alone in an effort to make him look foolish for things that apparently were said both ways on and off the field. Think about it, honestly what happened the last time that you were driving and someone did something really stupid, how did you react even though your kids may have been in the vehicle? We all say stupid things in the heat of the moment. Either way there had to be some respect for his abilities otherwise his side of the field would have seen a lot more balls.
    Somewhere else I heard someone ask, what would people have said about Mohamed Ali who only talked about how great he was? You know something, it may have bothered some, but at the end of the day people had to respect him because of what he did when he was at work.
    There is never any ONE man that represents a whole team, let alone city. 😉 If you want to focus on behavior look at Wilson, Tate, Lynch and many others that are amazing players but probably have the insight to keep as even headed as possible.
    Honestly, this is a hard topic to navigate because though we do expect professionalism from pro athletes, you are looking at young guys that are often chosen because of their ability to be aggressive in the game, then within minutes we expect them to be eloquent?
    Long long long story short. He should have done a better job at using self control while in the spotlight and maybe privately sent Crabtree a Hallmark card with some thoughts in it. lol But enough is enough, we are just looking for an exciting SB against another amazing team. Love Wilson, but it would be awesome if he can find that QB that he was, during regular season.
    You love us, you hate us, it’s all good? It would be nice though to hear people acknowledge our hard work and abilities that have afforded us this opportunity to be in the SB, but then again, who doesn’t just love a game with a identifiable underdog? Go Hawks!
