While nothing about the Dolphins’ search for a new General Manager would be described as graceful, it appears the firing of former assistant G.M. Brian Gaine became ugly down the stretch.
According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, Gaine was escorted out of the building after what the team termed a “mutual” parting today. The story also notes that Gaine heard he wasn’t getting the job via media channels, rather than from the team, when the decision was made to hire Dennis Hickey instead.
Beasley followed up on Twitter saying the Dolphins disputed that characterization of the events, saying they did in fact reach out to Gaine with the news of their decision (leaving out whether they actually connected with him, or merely attempted to).
Having someone shown to the door after they’ve been fired isn’t unheard of, and could certainly vary depending on the perspective of the person to whom the door was shown.
But the Dolphins’ problem continues to be one of the widespread perception of dysfunction and chaos, after multiple candidates for the job said no thanks, some before interviewing.
