Michael Vick believes he’ll be starting Week One

As the season wound down, quarterback Michael Vick said that he’d be open to returning to the Eagles if he wasn’t able to find a starting role with another team.

There’s more than a month before the free agent market opens and we’ll find out what kind of interest there is in giving Vick that shot. Even then, he could wind up in a competition for the starting job with a draft pick or another veteran. Nevertheless, Vick remained confident when asked Thursday if he’s going to be starting come the first week of the 2014 season.

“Absolutely,” Vick said, via NFL.com. “I can’t see no other way.”

There are certainly teams with a need for either a starting quarterback or someone to compete for a starting job and Vick’s at the top of a shallow free agent crop at the position. There’s a long way to go from that list to starting in the first week of the regular season, though, so it will be a while before we know if Vick’s belief will turn into reality.

  1. If by “starter”, he means someone who will do well enough in camp to get the reps but miss out at least half the season because he’s Mr. Glass. Then yes maybe he’s right.

Just go to the Raiders, where careers go to die.

  2. People seem to have forgotten that Vick is not a bad quarterback. He had a bad 2011-2012 but got back on track this season. Foles became starter because he played better, not because Vick was benched. Sure, there are things Vick needs to work on, but he definitely deserves another shot at starter in this league.

  3. As a Raiders fan I would love to see him finish his career out west. They could get him cheap. McGloin and Pryor could sit behind him and learn. They could draft Watkins or Clowney early. This would allow them more sallary cap money to go towards the defense. Get a big time D-Line and put some presure on these AFC west QB’s. Id love to see Clowney and Allen/Orakpo/Hardy fold Smith, Manning and particularly Rivers up like a pair of old socks.

  4. Well… Oak, Min, Hou, Jax, Cle, Ten need a starter for this upcoming season. Stl, Ari, TB and maybe even the nyg / nyj could be looking into QB’s by midseason depending on how the first 6 weeks go. I don’t think Vick is anything special anymore now that he is separated from Reid, but to think he wouldn’t be better than what those first 6 teams currently have? I would probably agree with Vick. He will be starting… somewhere.

  5. What Michael Vick, my mother and I have in common is we all have equal chances of starting in the NFL this fall.

  6. as sad as it is for me to say, vick would be a godsend for the vikings in 2014, even just as insurance when the next franchise qb we draft is garbage.

  7. If we don’t draft a starting QB than we’ll take Vick in Oakland. I would love for Pryor to be the man, but not sure he has it.

The question is whether Dennis Allen and Reggie will stake their jobs on Vick. Their both on short leashes.

I don’t think Vick goes to the Raiders.

  8. “People seem to have forgotten that Vick is not a bad quarterback.”

He is a terrible decision-maker, turns the ball over far too much, abysmal in the red zone. He’s a bad quarterback.

  9. Houston should sign Vick for a 2 year deal and draft a QB in 2nd round after trading out of the top spot. But they won’t–they’ll take Johnny Football.

  10. If one of these QB needy teams skips on a QB and goes with Clowney or someone else I can see them acquiring Vick.

I can see Vick doing well on a team like the Vikings with an already dominate run game and emerging pass talent in Patterson and Rudolph and a trusty Jennings, but they would have to take some 2nd Round QB as a project.

  11. Wouldn’t mind seeing him come to Cincinnati to put pressure on Andy. They tried to get him when Philadelphia signed him. Doubt it happens though.

  12. As a Bears fan let me just say to Vick, please go to Minnesota.

Man, it was great the last time Minnesota brought on a once mobile QB at the tail end of his career. That worked out really well… for the rest of the NFC North, anyway.

I need some more reasons to hate the Vikings as it is.

  13. “I can’t see no other way.”
That quote is a punchline in itself.

Vicks decision making and lack of smarts is why i dont want him on my team. He doesnt help himself either.

  14. The crazy thing is if you have experience running a team in the NFL they will pay you plenty. Just in case. Backup, injury, or poor play. We used to call them vagabonds. Journeymen. Now they are millionaire assets. Their assets on the bench half the season.

  15. I assume Vick is referring to starting for the Jags? He certainly won’t be the Eagles starting QB unless Foles is injured.

  16. If the Vikings dont get the qb they want in the draft (and please god dont settle for a blake bortles (a christian ponder in the making!) I would take a long hard look at mike vick. I feel he could be the perfect (interim) QB as we wait to finally get our long over due Franchise QB.

  17. It’s one thing to be a psychopath, but it’s another to be a delusional idiot psychopath like Vick.

He’s so delusional, he belongs in Kansas City, where they actually thought they had a good team.

  18. I believe Michael Vick isn’t Tall enough to be an effective Pocket Passer(5′ 11″),his own offensive line blocks his line of sight. So he Scrambles and he’s not getting any younger.

  19. The MN question is a defender at 8 and Vick, or D. Carr.
Bridgewater, Manzeil, Borttles are all gone by pick #8. (yes some are spelt wrong).
Carr maybe too unless one of these teams determines they find the next Russell Wilson to scoop up in the 2nd or 3rd. They all really need to find a long term answer to draft and start week 1,
So the Raiders will need to ask, Carr or Clowney.
I don’t see Vick being a factor. They already have QB’s on the roster capable of holding the fort until they get the future. Vick’s really not much (if any) upgrade.

Which will a GM fear more, passing on a QB that turns out to be the next big thing, or drafting the QB that turns out to be the next big bust?

To me St Lou and MN will define this draft. Does St Lou trade down because they can still get “their guy” after trading with a QB hungry team. Does MN trade up, to make sure they get a QB before they are all gone.
I do not see them trading with each other though.
I see one of them doing a deal with CLE.

  20. Do some of you think Norv Turners has shown a history to or would even consider adding a washed up oft injured read option dumpster fire like Vick?

Now if Leslie was still the coach…..The victim rescue signings from McNabb to Vick would continue at the QB position…
