As the season wound down, quarterback Michael Vick said that he’d be open to returning to the Eagles if he wasn’t able to find a starting role with another team.

There’s more than a month before the free agent market opens and we’ll find out what kind of interest there is in giving Vick that shot. Even then, he could wind up in a competition for the starting job with a draft pick or another veteran. Nevertheless, Vick remained confident when asked Thursday if he’s going to be starting come the first week of the 2014 season.

“Absolutely,” Vick said, via NFL.com. “I can’t see no other way.”

There are certainly teams with a need for either a starting quarterback or someone to compete for a starting job and Vick’s at the top of a shallow free agent crop at the position. There’s a long way to go from that list to starting in the first week of the regular season, though, so it will be a while before we know if Vick’s belief will turn into reality.
