Packers tight end Jermichael Finley could leave the team next month via free agency. He told PFT Live on Friday that he definitely wants to stay.
One reason he wants to stay arguably once was one of the reasons he wanted to leave — his relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
In 2012, Finley said he had no chemistry with Rodgers. On Friday, Finley explained that the situation has improved, dramatically.
“We were more friends off the field,” Finley said of Rodgers. “We communicated well off the field, we spoke to each other every day in the locker room, and that was some of the things we normally didn’t do. He’s my buddy and one of the guys I look up to and hopefully I get to play with him for the next several years. . . .
“[H]e’s an icon, man,” Finley added. “If you get his approval or anyone’s approval like that you get comfortable, and he made me feel comfortable this year and I appreciate him for that and we just detailed every aspect of our friendship.”
At a time when plenty of people are debating Peyton Manning’s spot among the all-time greats, Finley cast an unequivocal vote for his own guy.
“I say he’s the best, not because I play with him or whatnot, he’s just the best quarterback in the league and to ever play the game to tell you the truth,” Finley said of Rodgers.
