Report: Mark Sanchez had arthroscopic knee surgery during season

There was a report last month that a coach of a NFL team other than the Jets said that quarterback Mark Sanchez would be “the starter as soon as he walked in the door.”

While Sanchez says he wants to remain with the team that made him a first-round pick in 2009, that news should be heartening because it would be very difficult to find anyone who thinks that the Jets won’t make moving him off the roster one of their first orders of business this offseason. Sanchez’s chances of landing a job will be impacted by his recovery from right shoulder surgery.

That surgery came with a four-to-six month recovery period and Sanchez seems to have used some of that time to make sure the rest of his body is in prime condition when it comes to selling himself to potential employers. Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Sanchez had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee during the regular season.

Sanchez is back to running and showing no negative effects from the cleanup procedure, which Mehta reports probably wouldn’t have been done if he wasn’t already looking at a long spell on the sideline because of his shoulder. Sanchez has also started tossing and should be ready to do more when it comes time to find a new job.
