The Jets promoted a familiar name Monday, giving Tony Sparano Jr. a new title.
The team announced that Sparano Jr. had been promoted from seasonal intern the last two seasons to offensive assistant.
His dad was the Jets offensive coordinator in 2012, and is now the assistant head coach/offensive line coach for the Raiders.
They also named former Jets safety Eric Smith a seasonal intern.
The 27-year-old Sparano Jr. was a defensive end at the University of Albany before beginning his coaching career in the UFL. He was then a quality control coach on his father’s staff in Miami in 2011.
Smith was a third-round pick of the Jets in 2006, and stayed there until he was released last February.
