The Saints are expected to pare their roster of a couple of veteran defensive players in the near future, but they’ve reached agreement to bring one defender back for the 2014 season.
Linebacker Keyunta Dawson has agreed to a one-year deal with the team, according to a report by Brian McIntyre. Per the report, Dawson signed a minimum salary benefit deal and will have a $575,000 cap charge as a result. Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune is also reporting that Dawson has agreed to a deal with New Orleans.
Dawson joined the Saints in October after being waived by the Titans and played a reserve role on the Saints defense, recording three tackles and half a sack for the team. He also had a forced fumble against the Falcons that Corey White recovered early in the fourth quarter of a Week 12 Saints victory.
The Saints are expected to release veteran linebacker Will Smith and safety Roman Harper as soon as Wednesday to clear up cap room with the start of the new league year approaching quickly.
