The Lions have made the first big move of their offseason, one that leaves them shorter on offensive options and leadership.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions have informed wide receiver Nate Burleson that he’s being released today.
The move clears $5.5 million worth of salary cap space.
The 32-year-old wideout was a consistent performer for the Lions when well, but missed 17 games the last two seasons because of injuries.
“It’s a hard decision for them to make, but I can’t blame them for making it,” Burleson said.
Burleson should find work in the NFL again soon. If not, there’s always a second career in pizza delivery.
