Terrell Suggs, Ravens agree to terms

The Baltimore Ravens have announced that a press conference will be held on Monday.  The attendees will be G.M. Ozzie Newsome and linebacker Terrell Suggs.

And all that that implies.

Despite some reports that it’s a done deal, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that it’s not actually done yet.  However, the two sides have agreed to terms, and at this point it’s expected that a deal will be done.

The deal is sufficiently close that Suggs currently is in the air from Arizona to Baltimore.  While it’s possible that a fight will develop over an obscure term, it’s highly unlikely that the situation will blow up at this point.

Suggs, the NFL defensive player of the year in 2011, was entering the final year of long-term deal signed in 2009, at a cap number of $12.4 million.  Undoubtedly, the cap number for 2014 will drop, probably significantly.

It’ll be interesting to see the terms of the agreement, given the dips experienced in the market for over-30 pass rushers in recent years.

  1. Fantastic. This news sure beats Ray Rice gets arrested. Now go get Eric Decker, or Alex Mack, Ozzie.

  2. May not be pretty but Tsizzle is a smart man and still a very good football player. Glad he’ll be sticking with the black and purple for his entire career.

  3. Although he didn’t have the best year this past season (like the rest of the Ravens), glad T-Sizzle is staying in purple and black. He’s the heart and soul of the team.

  4. I’ll be interested to see the terms (and structure) of the contract. As long as it’s a reasonable length and dollar amount, that is very good news for Baltimore.

Suggs was due to count over $12 Million against the cap, and coming to an agreement on an extension will allow the Ravens front office to make a legitimate push to retain Eugene Monroe.

With Michael Oher likely having played his last home game at M&T Bank stadium, it would have put Baltimore in a very tough spot to start over with TWO new tackles…particularly when you consider the state of the Ravens O-Line over the course of 2013.

A press conference for a guy already under contract? The Bengals would never take part in such buffoonery.
The Bungals would never win a championship, either, so they might want to consider doing something different.

  6. No surprise here. Suggs was made to be a Raven the attitude, his style of play, etc. They probably will make most of their moves by keeping their free agents and going in the draft by getting some offensive linemen. Newsome is no fool as much as I hate admitting that.

  7. Great news to all Ravens fans. Suggs will finish his career as the third greatest ALL-TIME Raven after Lewis and Ogden. Reed will end up fourth, as he finishes his career elsewhere.

  8. While there definitely are some things Ozzie has missed on, such as high draft picks of WR’s, the jury still being out on Jimmy Smith (though he showed a lot of improvement last season), the busts of Terrence Cody and Sergio Kindle…there are some things Ozzie does extremely well.

Finding undrafted free agent talent, and scooping up players that other teams give up on and finding productive players. I am not sure who is keeping eyes out there on all of these players, but they are doing a bang up job.

  9. Too bad, thought Joe Flacco, that Suggs is coming back. I could’ve used his departure as excuse material for when I pick up where this last mediocre season left off. Wait, thought Joe, maybe I can blame it all on Cam, like the dumb fans did! Uh oh, thought Joe, I just remember, Cam’s not here anymore! Oh well… who else can we not bring back, so I can use that for an excuse?

  10. Be good to see the terms of this deal, as that will probably be replicated in Jared Allen’s contract expectations.

Hopefully the Vikings will be able to satisfy those demands without having to put too big a dent in our cap space.

Everson Griffin hasn’t proven himself beyond a situational pass rusher, and though I really hope the Vikings resign him, I have a feeling that he will expect a deal larger than what Allen will get this season.

  11. Does this contract require him to get some results in the second half of the season? It was T-fizzle the last eight games last year.

This raven move put everyone to sleep JFM….time for another Gatorade bath…how about a statue?

Well id reply to you with, you don’t really know what its like having a reigning Defensive MVP and superbowl champion on your team for 8 plus years. So he deserves to be announced as a man who is taking a paycut to stay with his beloved franchise that he had so much to do with bringing it to dominance. Bengals wouldnt do this, because they cant…because they dont have the legacy of baltimore already in 20 short years. Bengals have been surpassed, they’re a joke of a squad. So thats why brah

  13. More importantly, if you do your research, which i know barely any of you trolls do. You would see that cutting Suggs would of been complete dead money on the cap, and his cap number was the highest on the team. With a restructured deal, the ravens save huge cap space, keep suggs, and can continue to improve the team. Haters only see hate when its not for their team, even if it means saying something really stupid on the internet. No shame in these trolls games. Well ill crush you

  14. T-Fizzle, down the second half of the season.

First Max Starks now, Kelvin Beachum is your daddy.

  15. I love how these unoriginal trolls drop little “Wing Dingers” like T-Fizzle thinking they are funny. Seriously its lame and you grown men are pathetic. SUGGS IS THE TRUTH! AND YOU WISH HE WAS ON YOUR SQUAD!!!

  16. Live News Conferance with Suggs.

“I had an opportunity to create some cap space for a team that has always taken care of me, to bring in some new exciting players and get another championship”.

I am sorry but thats the kind of player you want on your team. T-Sizzle is a Ravens for life like Ray Ray and Ogden. He will now be part of the Top three, ousting mr. Reed, who missed his opportunity to ride off in the sunset with the great Ray Lewis. Ed is #4 doe

  17. Suggs was the leader of that below average defense. He led them to a third place finish in the division. I want him around. I want to retire on that right side. Max Starks abused him and so did Kelvin Beachum. They kept that “yam yam” mouth closed.

Suggs is an overpaid bum. You can keep him.
