The Cowboys got the ball rolling on cuts to help them get under the salary cap on Friday by waving goodbye to defensive end Everette Brown and they won’t be stopping there.
Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the team will also release offensive lineman Phil Costa. Costa signed a two-year, $2.7 million deal with the team before last season, but the Cowboys need cap space more than a reserve lineman right now so they jettisoned Costa.
Costa appeared to be on track to be more than a backup on the interior of the offensive line in Dallas at one point, but back and ankle injures sank him in 2012 and he moved into a reserve role last season. He’s probably destined for the same job this offseason when he lands with another team.
The Cowboys also announced that they have released defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, guard Ray Dominguez and guard Jeff Olson. There should be more cuts coming from Dallas in the coming days and likely some restructurings and/or pay cuts as well.
