Browns center Alex Mack was in Brazil in February, which meant he wasn’t meeting with the Browns about a new contract with free agency fast approaching.

Mack’s agent Marv Demoff said that the plan was for Mack to connect with the team at the end of the month to give the Browns a chance “to explain what happened” regarding the offseason coaching and front office overhaul. Demoff intimated that the impressions left by that meeting would go a long way toward determining Mack’s approach to free agency and returning to the Browns.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the meeting took place over the weekend. Per Rapoport, re-signing Mack is the team’s top priority and they hoped to use the meeting to convince the center that the team is moving in the right direction.

Mack has started every game for the Browns over the last five seasons and, be it in Cleveland or elsewhere, is likely to command more than $13 million guaranteed and $38.898 million overall over seven years that the Eagles gave Jason Kelce last week.
