Chargers cut veteran fullback Le’Ron McClain

If the Chargers are going to use a fullback much this year, they’re going to have to go find one.

According to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego, the Chargers are cutting veteran fullback Le’Ron McClain, carving $2.5 million off the salary cap.

McClain only played 154 snaps on offense last year and only had 11 rush attempts, so it’s obvious they think they can replace his production at a cheaper rate.

The only fullback on the roster at the moment is January pick-up Zach Boren, so they’ll need to add bodies there.

  1. Look for more two t.e. sets from the Bolts. Teams will have a a hard time covering Gates, Green, Allen, and mathews/woodhead. If Malcom Floyd or another deep threat plays we are set.

  2. Wasted acquisition last year. Game vs Washington they had 3 plays from the 1yd line to win that game. All 3 of those plays he was on the sideline. Great play calling by Whiz. No threat to run in in. They settled for a FG and lost in OT. If you can’t get him on the field in that situation, then when?

  3. The Ravens already have a fullback and it is extremely unlikely that they will add another unless he is hurt or completely ineffective. @ fullbacks is a luxury that very few teams can afford. It’s like having 2 kickers.

  4. They should have cut Rivers and Gates…watch what happens to those two this year. They will both be on the failure to perform list.

Last year was Rivers last ditch attempt to win. He and the SD Chokers got very lucky to get into the playoffs and they are fully aware that the window is now closed…

Gates and Rivers, like the SD Chokers, are DONE!

And though the Raiders have fallen on hard times…they are still kings of the west with 3 rings. No other team in the AFC west has accomplished more than the Silver and Black and no one ever will!

We can say this everyday until one of the other teams can match our greatness! That will never happen!

  5. Maybe so, BUT a good FB with good hands can be very effective as a blocker/TE/WR in the redzone.
Giants are using them that way, but just as blocker, no.
