Colts won’t re-sign Pat Angerer

The Colts had linebacker D’Qwell Jackson in for a visit this week and they’re likely looking at him as a possibility to play inside linebacker alongside Jerrell Freeman next season.

They aren’t considering Pat Angerer for another shot at that role. Angerer is set to become a free agent on Tuesday and the Colts have let him know that he’s not part of the team’s plans in the future.

“They gave me a heads-up I would not be re-signed by them,’' Angerer said, via the Indianapolis Star. “I understand. I’ve been hurt the past two years. It’s part of the business. It’s part of the game. There comes a time when you’ve got to move on. I wish I could have played better here. I wish I hadn’t gotten hurt.”

Angerer ended last year on injured reserve with a knee injury and had surgery that he’s rehabbing from right now. He anticipates being ready to return to action in June or July, although it remains to be seen how much that injury (and a foot that’s been surgically repaired twice) will impact interest on him on the open market.

Angerer was the 63rd pick of the 2010 draft and started 39 games for the Colts over the last four seasons. Jackson is expected to make a decision about his next team soon and the Colts will be in the linebacker market if he opts to sign somewhere else.
